EmpyreanKnight Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Do you sometimes feel like everything we do, every thought we make, and every act we take is ultimately geared towards a fixed future that we inexorably, inevitably are moving to fulfill? Like we already have a fixed end and that all the semblance of control and will that we seem to have are nothing but mere illusions serving a strict, immovable deity - personified best by the primordial goddess Ananke. We might make all these readings and predictions and we act according to the cards we pull, but if these draws and our subsequent actions have been determined from the very start, then we're still just acting out the part that's been designed for us. Our Books of Life has already been written, all that remains is for us to live it.
Raggydoll Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Well, yes. I have that feeling most of the time, but not in a depressing or disempowered way. And I believe that we are meant to do all the readings that we do, and we are meant to see every card that we draw. I won’t go as far as Yoav Ben Dov and say that everything is a sign, but then again.. I guess I believe that everything has a place (and a function) in the big picture.
CharlotteK Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 No not entirely. I believe that the universe operates on some cosmic principles and that one of those is karma. So to an extent we are reaping the consequences of past actions and some events are inevitable because of what we did previously. But I do also believe we have choice and free will over many of our actions, which creates future karma. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Albadawn Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 I second CharlotteK, well said. I do feel that sometimes our meetings with other people are fated. I seem to learn my biggest lessons through my relationships with others, and I feel deeply that certain individuals were somehow fated to cross paths with me.
Cobweb Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 No, I believe in free will. I believe in karma, as a what goes around, comes around idea. Essentially, if you're kind to people, one of the consequences may be that they are more likely to help you out when you need it. Always pay it forward! But I don't think it's fate or destiny: I just think we tend to reap what we sow. There are consequences to our actions. (Although we all know that bad things can and do happen to good people so it clearly isn't a foolproof system!.) I believe people can be pre-disposed to make certain choices (e.g. someone can have a lot of water-like personality traits so will often take the course of least resistance). But ultimately, I believe that people have the freedom to choose their own path. I actually find it kind of terrifying to think it might all be destiny and there's nothing I can do to change it! But that's the control freak in me coming out! ;D
Flaxen Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 This is an interesting question... From my own experience, I suspect that certain events are meant to happen but how we travel the path between those events is open to more free will. However, if we start going too far off-piste, something happens to nudge us back.
