Could member blogs - both public and private be set to be viewable only my members ? It seems to me that there is considerable scope for Bad People to steal stuff from them (I was looking at a couple) and plagiarise or take credit for it. If creation isn't set this way (I forget) could that also be viewable only by members - for similar reasons ? If I were to set up a blog, I wouldn't want it to be able to be read by just ANYONE out there, nor would I want to have to invite individuals to see it - as I think you have to with a "private" blog. I remember when I was creating my deck, I didn't post any of the images on AT, as I knew people could steal them - as happened to at least one person there.

We're planning to keep the blogs public to help us bring more traffic to the site through searches.  This is an unfortunate necessity of the monetry side of the forum.  Private blogs do have the option of you allowing specific people to read it.

I believe the blog system we're using only has the options of public or private (with named members as an option).  It is up to individual members to decide whether they wish to risk the public side of things with regards to plagarism, it is a risk over the entirety of the internet.

The journals section, while not as versatile as the blogging section, will remain visible to members only.

I am terrifically grateful that you do keep these blogs public because it gives me additional exposure (as a professional mystic).  Thank you.  Yes, people will steal.  I guess that I would rather have my ideas out there,  and to then risk someone else stealing them.  Truth is truth.  karma is karma.  It all comes out in the end.

I would rather there were an option to choose public, named members or "all members only", then. I'd have thought the blogs in themselves wouldn't necessarily add that much to the monetary side - there aren't likely to be that many.

I don't know if this is possible with the software being used but we'll take the suggestion on board!

Public blogs add to our hits in search engines which brings more people to the site.  More people visiting yields a higher chance of people staying and donating or becoming a subscriber.

Maybe there could be a way to tag posts you make for search engines, and then those post would be public? So if I would post about the use of my Toth-deck and I click "oth and Tarot, or about witchcraft and tarot whatever, so that people who google for any of it might come across those posts. Would be more effective than random blog posts which might be too personal.

Unfortunately, blogs aren't able to be made members only, I went back and checked.

Like any website featuring a blog, these are meant to be public. I always encourage blog posts in the form of articles or sharing of knowledge rather than a personal space, those are best kept in the Journal thread section.

This is a fun idea but impossible to do.

Is there perhaps a way to have an "address" that you can put in instead of naming individuals, that would open it up to all members but (clearly) NOT in a form that would work as an address for PMs, which would be asking for spamming !

Journals.

But (not that I've actually tried) journals that I've looked at don't look at all the same as the blogs - they seem to have fewer options for formatting and the like.

This for the "home page":

as against a journal which looks like an ordinary thread

Could the journals get the same formatting etc options?

Oh well. Thanks for answering. It won't affect me that much anyway.

Journals are ordinary threads and there is privacy set for that section like the regular forum sections. They were actually started in that section before Blogs was launched and members requested a space to write for themselves here.

Blogs is a part of Invision like the Gallery and other features. It's quite powerful, with a lot of posting options. It's a better platform for posting like this but we have this privacy annoyance. I looked through the Invision discussions on their site and it has annoyed many other people as well. Maybe it will be improved in future but I am afraid this is a limitation of the software. We cannot change that.

There will always be journals for keeping your writings at the same privacy level of posting readings here 😀

Fair enough. I've spent enough time on the invision boards to know how intransigent and unresponsive they are. I just hoped that with her techy knowledge, LittleFang could get around it. My other invision forum doesn't have blogs, so....

ETA NICE (not) response on a board there: They SO care....

This is a reminder to all that I'm not a coder/programmer. 🙂 I know enough to fix minor things but software coding is something way beyond me.

You are doing great - sorry if I suggested otherwise.
