Hi everyone,

So glad to have found this little corner of the web. I'm 31 years old and from Atlantic Canada and have been exploring tarot since early 2021. I love researching and learning about the tarot, but I'm afraid I've had trouble taking it out of my "bedroom" so to speak - to truly improve, I know that I have to practise with real people! I have tried in the past and ended up going so incredibly in-depth with my readings that they have burnt me out (ex. sending people 2-page PDFs diving into a 3-card reading). There is so much to learn in tarot reading - artwork and symbolism, numerology, not to mention how meaning translates and evolves from one deck to another. It's can be really overwhelming for me.

When I try to do readings, I find I have so much swimming around my head, it's hard to see the forest through the trees. I am hoping this community can help to get me out of my head and into the present!

I am still having some trouble understanding the full scope of what this site offers - I would love any assistance!

It's great to meet you all!

Welcome! It’s lovely to meet you!

I understand that it’s overwhelming, but I think it’s important to have realistic expectations. Tarot takes time to learn and it won’t feel easy within those first years of learning. How about trying to pinpoint only one or two keywords for each card and skip the reversals? Keep it simple and don’t worry so much about symbolism to begin with. Practice just looking at the cards and see what stands out to you. Then think about how this detail might be relevant to the reading. Don’t rush, sit with the reading a while. I also find that it helps to take a picture of the cards and to study them on your phone or your computer, this can help you distance yourself a bit and the smaller image will often make it easier to spot details and patterns that seem significant.

This forum will be a great place for you to practice. Everyone gives helpful feedback which will help you gain confidence and fine tune your process 🙂

Welcome Shannon!  Best advice is just look through the forums.  If Tarot is your main focus, you will find many perspectives and hopefully some will resonate for you, but I am sure some will at least give you food for thought and people are lovely about answering questions 🙂

Welcome to the community @shannon 😀:animated-smileys-signs-085::78496: I'm glad you have found us here.

Thank you for supporting our community ❤️

I think what might help you is to read with the other members here, you learn so much from practically reading. I also do long readings but I tend to get a lot that I want to give but there is a line of course, we shouldn't burn out doing the readings. It might help to give a max time you work on a reading, that is what I do now. Or a max word limit. Have cut-offs, after that, the reading is done! I think the balance of how much to give in readings is something that is learnt with them.

You are welcome to offer or ask other members for a reading in the exchanges areas. Also check out our monthly Circles (on my sig link below), you can read with others and learn 🙂 . If you want to practice your readings, we have methods to do it here and it's a learning forum, no stress with them.
