I personally use past, present, future or ask direct questions. What other methods do you suggest?

If I read for myself - which I don't as I cheat - so I'd rather ask someone else to read for me ! - I would do it the same way I would read for someone else - pick a spread to fit the question or situation. Why would I treat myself in a different way from any other sitter ?

Generally, the tried and true spreads i routinely use with clients. 10-cards, 7 cards. Sometimes Open Reading 3-cards.

The exception is when I use spreads inspired by this forum [most recently an Eclipse spread]. Since they're often experimental or highly specialized ... I use them on myself ... not on clients.

For me its the DECK.

I have many DECKS which I seldom to never use for clients, but I use for personal practice.

Interesting! I also do believe that decks really make the difference. Which deck do you use for yourself and why? And which one for your clients?

Thanks for your answer!

Preparation.  Lots of prayer and meditation.  Balancing and grounding practices.  Calling in my Guides.  All else is secondary.  Naturally, this is true for all readings that I do.

I tend to use a classic RWS or similar for clients. Sometimes Eduard Dotti if I want to use a Tarocchi style [non scenic pips].

For clients I want clear direct imagery they can understand.

For myself? LOL all the rest 😇 My recent faves are Divine Deco and Arlecchino ... I go through phases.

1) As I have 5 main Spirit Guides - I do a 5 card spread (Pentacle) denoted Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit.

I may decide those positions correspond to the 5 (i.e. they each have one of those elements that I think is most relevant to them) or read at random. I read what their advice/ideas/comments are for me in each position.

2) 3 card spread for the day: What to do, what not to do, and the bridge in-between (advice).

3) 3 card spread:  How do I feel (select the most appropriate image), How would I like to feel (select it), and the bridge in-between (advice).

I have two decks I use for 1). Presently The Silhouette Tarot and the Textured Tarot.  This may change, it has in the past.

4) I also use Tarot for meditation, ritual and spellwork.  Best 2 decks for ritual are Thoth and The Tarot of the Cat People.

1) and 4) are here below in 1st photo:

The decks I use for other types of self-reading from the above vary depending on mood. I have a collection.

But most often I will use The Gendron Tarot, Superlunaris Tarot or Tarot Apokalysis.

5) These are also the main decks I use to read for other people - though for others - I may use a double rather than the copy I regularly use for myself.

2 more good reading decks for others, I find are The Halloween Tarot and the Light Seers Tarot - 2nd photo:

Lastly I do have a variety of RWS versions. If I'm going to a Tarot meet-up/group, workshop, or conference I will always take at least one of these

for ease of pairing up to read/learn with a beginner - or if that's what the presenter is using themselves.

For myself, I too will practice new spreads, if from here or from a general book I will pick one of the decks I'm very used to; if from a LWB I will use the deck it came from.

But one of may favorites, for myself and for others, is the astrological houses. If I don't want something that large for myself at the time, I often go with an elemental spread, in a cross form but with just 5 cards, or if it needs embellishing I will add 4 more, either on the first 4 or between them.

In a weird mood, though, sometimes I will pull out the 25-card spread I invented. That's usually for an overview, it's not specific at all; but I find it helpful sometimes.

I create a spread that incorporates all of the questions I have regarding my situation at hand. I select the *right* deck for my query and also determine how strict I will be in dealing my cards. I then say a prayer of guidance, centering and steeling myself for whatever the cards will say. It's very important for me to leave any agitation or anxiety I may have by the wayside if I aim to have a truthful and therefore useful reading. Once in fully ready, I then proceed with my reading. I take notes in my Tarot journal. Finally, I close with a prayer of gratitude.
