CheshireCat785 Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 I find myself asking my deck a yes/no question only to be baffled by the card I draw. How do you treat the cards for yes/no questions? What if the card drawn is reversed? Do you draw the next card for clarification?

How do you treat the cards for yes/no questions? What if the card drawn is reversed? Do you draw the next card for clarification? Tarot isnt designed to serve binary information ... so I tweak the deck to make it serve binary answers. For example cups and coins are yes / swords and rods are no. There are many different methods. I think there's a whole thread on this somewhere in the forums [???] I personally use Lenormand for yes/no but even then I use a special yes/no method. No cartomancy is binary by nature so the cards will always need to be tweaked to serve binary information.
DanielJUK Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 There is an interesting older discussion on this.... There is a link in the thread to other divinatory methods for yes / no readings Here are some spreads and other ideas to use them - My view is that tarot is not the best for yes / no answers for the reasons @Misterei gave. The cards want to tell you so much and they are forced into binary answers. It's so limiting! It's a personal choice but I have found they give me worst answers, then allowing them to give a fuller answer with a more open-ended question. It's a decision how to use it and it works for some people 🙂 The biggest mistakes I see with them though is that people ask really big important questions with a yes /no answer with one card! You need more for such a question. Secondly it's easier to get addicted to tarot with them, like you begin reading so you won't make decisions yourself, it can be quite toxic.
CheshireCat785 Posted August 7, 2024 Author Posted August 7, 2024 Thank you so much for the links! I have definitely found that I have an easier time interpreting larger spreads, and it makes more sense thinking about it as limiting the cards. I'm going to look into those other divination methods for yes/no questions. ^_^
