Hi - I’m hoping someone with more experience than me, can help. I’m very, very new at this. I have been interpreting the cards and I was doing great, until I got to the court cards and was given two interpretations for each card, this has just happened on court cards so far. I just wrote them both down and moved on, but after researching I believe one is maybe the situation as a whole and the other is an individual? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m struggling to grasp the concept (difference), since all of the cards have been straight forward in their messages. Thank!

What resources are you using for your tarot meanings?

Courts tend to have two meanings to them: the person the card signifies, or certain qualities. Those qualities are usually related to the suit and gender/stage of life the court card represents. These aren't usually read in tandem. The card will usually mean one or the other. It all depends on the type of question, how many court cards there are, where they fall in the spread, etc 😊

Thank you for the response. That helps, I’m seeing it with more clarity.

I’m just letting my guides channel information to me.

I got super confused when they gave me two explanations for the court cards. But looking back - I can see what you’re saying. Complex system.

I find Courts can reference individual people, groups / organizations, or events.  As @akiva says, context, spread, and topic are factors that help decide which is which. If you're asking about your child, then Page is the child. Asking about test results for an adult? Page is the notification letter.

Pretty much everyone gets confused with the Courts at first. It took me 30 years to feel I had mastered them.

This is helpful. So to clarify — if you ask about your child and the page comes up - it’s confirmation that the answer is about your child, in tandem with an additional card? I hope that makes sense.

I've moved this thread to Tarot Talk & Technique section, where it fits better.

There is a nice older discussion on the forum about this with examples and suggestions -

This is one of the hardest parts of tarot reading, you have to make a choice on the courts. I think you get good at it with experience and also you can see how it fits in with the reading or question. If you are not sure, you could try the two different meanings and see which fits the best.

In this situation, you asked about your child in the reading. This is probably about their qualities, not showing them as a person.

for example.....

Why is my child struggling at school? You asked about the child and so a Page coming up might show their difficulties. for example the Page of Cups (or reversed if you read them) could show emotional difficulties. This might not be the card you see normally represents them but in this situation it's the reading, that's their qualities in this situation.

How will the family big party go? You might get a lot of court cards, you might see your parents, other loved ones and maybe children represented. This is them showing in the reading.

I've noticed as well that if you ask for an advice-based reading, they often represent qualities you should take on or the person you should try to be in this scenario.

Thank you for moving the post, I was having issues posting in the correct forum. Every reply got me closer to understanding the information I received. I think I understand the two interpretations I received now, the answer was something you had posted in the earlier post. “They can also represent the qualities you need to take on in a situation.”

example: for the Queen of wands - I received the first interpretation - but then I keep getting another message of kind and generous, but was having trouble figuring out why the messages were separate. I think the secondary messages are all what we need to bring to the situation.

So grateful! ❤️
