What Is Your Tarot "Ritual" With Sitters?

Do you have a certain ritual that you use the cards for with sitters?

For example, before the reading starts, I will get a vibe off my sitter and will pick out an "indicator card" or a personality card like on the court cards. Like my sitter today I chose the Queen of Cups for her as she (I felt) was very expressive in her emotions. After the shuffling and cutting process, I had her insert that card into the deck and then after that is done, I'll ask them if they want the "top or bottom card" on top or underneath the Indicator card, then after three cards are chosen in this manner, I'll do the reading.

That's what I mean by "ritual". I didn't learn it in a book or from another reader.

Do you have a tarot reading ritual and what is yours?

I don't. I ask if they have a focus, I think about what spread I will use (usually one I invent in the spot to fit the focus) and then I shuffle and pull the cards. I don't use significators.

It's only been a couple of days - and I THINK there are other threads with the same question...

Yes, I do. Although I might call it my customary opening rather than a ritual per se.

  1. Before the appointment I clean the space and burn incense. If it's online I might have to set-up gear or update software.
  2. When client arrives, I confirm that we're reading for half-hour or whatever product they've purchased. This is a formality, but sometimes the client will let me know they might wish to add more time. Also it helps me manage their expectations. Like a client who has purchased 15 minutes I let them know they need a specific focus b/c 15 minutes can't get into their whole life condition.
  3. I ask if they have had a reading before to know their familiarity with Tarot or Astrology [for new clients]
  4. For Tarot, usually the readings are 30-60 minutes. I let them know we will start general and then get into specifics of their question after the initial general spread.
  5. For Astrology readings I always open with Ganpati mantra [patron of astrologers] and often will give 1-2 planetary mantras based-on their charts. Since the sessions are usually recorded, I want them to have the mantra at the beginning of the recording where it will be easy to find.

I have my customary ways of shuffling and dealing the spreads, but these aren't specific to clients as I do the same methods reading for myself, too.

For Tarots, i don't identify a Significator card as you do. But if I start reading Lenormand more seriously for clients [i.e. doing GTs] then I would have to identify significator cards both for the client and for their concerns.
