Kikiwi Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Hi everyone! I am very new to Tarot, and I look forward to being part of this community to continue learning and practicing. I only started learning Tarot cards 2 weeks ago, so just a newbie. I bought a RWS deck as it seems to be the most recommended for beginners, and just finished reading Rachel Pollack's Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom. I've done a few readings for my family members and myself, even though it still takes me forever to make a cohesive reading out of the cards, I find it a very therapeutic and powerful tool. There is so much more to the cards that I feel like I'm not quite grasping with yet. Any recommendation for how to become a better Tarot reader is very welcomed!
FindYourSovereignty Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Welcome, @Kikiwi! There is much in this forum that helps with learning: reading exchanges, book recommendations, websites and video recommendations. Everyone has their own approach to learning the cards and it can get overwhelming, but truthfully, the best way to learn is to handle the cards as much as possible, practice, practice, and practice some more.Application of what you are learning is everything. The more you engage with the cards and ‘read’ them, the greater your bond and comfort level will become. Happy reading!
DanielJUK Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Welcome to the community @Kikiwi 😀 I am glad you found us here on your journey, the next step I think is for you to read and practice, practice, practice. That is how it all comes together.
Kikiwi Posted November 18, 2024 Author Posted November 18, 2024 Hi FindYourSovereignty and DanielJUK! Thank you for your warm welcomes, I am also glad to be here! I will definitely make sure to continue practicing reading the cards and make good use of the resources available in this forum. Look forward to seeing y'all around!
DanielJUK Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 @Kikiwi when you get to 5 posts on the forum, you can then see the readings and exchange areas and you are welcome to sign up to reading with other members, for feedback in return. When you feel ready for it and it's gentle practice. Also you can post readings with your interpretation for second opinions from us in those areas 🙂
Kikiwi Posted November 18, 2024 Author Posted November 18, 2024 DanielJUK that would be a great way to practice with other members, and a fun one too! I am actually struggling with a reading, I'll check out the readings and exchange once I have enough posts, thank you!
Kikiwi Posted November 18, 2024 Author Posted November 18, 2024 joy Hi! Thank you for welcoming me, nice to meet you!
Mikeyc Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 HI and Welcome, Good luck on your journey with the Tarot. There are many resources here and on the internet to help you on your way.
Kikiwi Posted November 21, 2024 Author Posted November 21, 2024 @Mikeyc Hi! Thank you for your welcome! There are many resources online, but it's sometimes difficult to discern which of them is actually trustworthy. I guess that's why I'm joining this forum 😉
Mikeyc Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 Well one I would recommend to you is Tarot Maps on YouTube. It was the late Vincent Pitisci's channel I learned quite a bit from him and his books. MHO though
Kikiwi Posted November 21, 2024 Author Posted November 21, 2024 @Mikeyc Took a glimpse at the YouTube channel, there is a lot of promising content! I will explore that channel when I have more time. Thank you for your recommendation!
GreyBug Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 Hi @Kikiwi I am also new on the boards. I saw the recommendation for Vincent Pitisci's channel and I wanted to add Christiana Gaudet "your tarot fairy godmother". She does many free classes and live workshops, and you can learn a lot on any of her streams, even if they're not themed or organized for that purpose. One of my most in-depth spreads I use, I devised from a combination of their reading methods.
CCMae Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 I think everyone can agree practice is the only thing that will get you tuned into the meanings of the cards and the overall story they are trying to tell you. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, because that’s how we learn! 😉
Kikiwi Posted November 23, 2024 Author Posted November 23, 2024 Hi @GreyBug Thank you so much for your recommendation! I just watched her video for court cards study and it was very helpful! Looks like I have another YouTube channel to explore this weekend 😆
Kikiwi Posted November 23, 2024 Author Posted November 23, 2024 @CCMae Hi! Thank you for your encouragement ☺️ I definitely find myself getting more insights on the cards when I actually apply them to a reading rather than trying to memorize them. I've so far only read for family members so making mistakes aren't that scary yet, I hope I'll gain enough confidence to read for strangers soon 🫣
Mikeyc Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 Don't be afraid of mistakes, No matter how experienced you are with cards once in a while your just wrong. It happens, Don't fear learn from the experince You'll gain confidence with time and practice
Kikiwi Posted November 28, 2024 Author Posted November 28, 2024 @Mikeyc Hi! That's very well said, everyone is bound to make some mistakes, and making mistakes is part of the learning.

I am now using the Radiant Spirit Wise Tarot/ that is my main deck, and I am always learning new things about it. Just continue to practice learning the meanings of the cards and you'll get better at it. It's not something you'll learn overnight, but if you have a passion & fire for the tarot, your understandings & readings will get better & better.
KeziahS Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Hi Kikiwi! Glad to meet you! I've just finished Rachel Pollack's Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom, also!
Kikiwi Posted December 3, 2024 Author Posted December 3, 2024 @KeziahS Hello, nice to meet you! I think there was a lot of insights in Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom, and at the same time very beginner-friendly! I hope you also found it helpful 😄
KeziahS Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 I did! I’m sure I will be referring back to it often.
Chimene Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 I love the Rachel Pollack book - It's so much deeper than other guides. I'm a beginner too but I just love the cards 🙂

Hi @RickInBakersfield so sorry I don't know how I missed your reply earlier Thank you for your kind words, I will continue to practice and learn, and hopefully helping people around me along the way 😄
Kikiwi Posted December 17, 2024 Author Posted December 17, 2024 Hi @Chimene! I haven't had a chance to read other books on Tarot yet so I can't draw any comparison, but I agree it's insightful. I feel a deeper connection with each card as I read through her book. I hope you are enjoying this learning journey, and hope to see you around on this forum!
