LGG Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Hi ! What's your best advice to read Tarot cards. Thank you very much 💜 ✨️
akiva Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 I think my first advice would be to do a simple reading/spread a day on a topic that means absolutely nothing to you. They're really easy to find, just watch a tv show/film or read a book/magazine, that you can only just about bear. Then practice readings on character analysis or relationship dynamics (or both 😄). If you fancy predictive reading there might be an event mentioned in the show/book/etc, that's at a later plot point. You could ask about the outcome, etc. The idea behind reading like this is you're not sat waiting for feedback. It's almost instant, and you can quickly start to see how cards speak in various ways. And of course the abundance of media to choose from! You could be quite proficient in legal or medical readings after watching a few shows with those themes 🤣 The most fun I had when doing stuff like this was trying to predict losers and winners on various British game shows, with surprising results. I'd also advise to not do 1 card pulls, but that's subjective to my own reading style. There are many who get a lot out of one card. I'd suggest trying to avoid doing daily readings that focus on things like "what will my day bring today?" It's much better to do weekly or even biweekly readings, which again is just the way I read. Others will have their own ideas. Also in my own practice I've found it's better to do an end of day retrospective reading to see how the cards relate to various situations and dynamics, rather than at the start. A lot of new people do dailies and pull a negative card like the Tower and spend all day catastrophising, when in fact it was just a stubbed toe or a splinter. Years ago I had the Tower in a daily as a lit cigarette getting chucked at me 😱 The best advice though? Just have fun and don't take it seriously. You'll be wrong, you'll be right, and sometimes the cards will do a 180 and you'll be both wrong and right at the same time. It's all part of the experience. And they're all opportunities to get better 😊
Moon-Hermit Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 (edited) I think the best piece of advice would be not to stick to set meanings of the cards in your readings. As @akiva put it very well, there are some practitioners that think the most negative of specific cards, while on the other hand there are some readers too that solely focus on positive points and completely discard the rest of the implications. I think this is mainly because of trying to adhere to a certain list of words and accepted views on the cards in fear of 1)not being accurate and 2)sometimes the desire to make things right as we see fit; which all in all ruins the whole essence of an otherwise brilliant reading. So, my biggest advice would be to let go of the fear/uncertainty to interpret the cards in your own words and your own way. As long as you stick to the context, the question, and don't give in to the desire to steer away from a neutral mindset in relation to the reading, you're welcome to interpret the cards as you feel is best, even if you sound very different from the traditional list. (BTW, I have nothing against the traditional methods. I find some of them very helpful as they provide a solid base for interpretation, but that is as long as they don't become restrictions and push me to see a reading in a single minded and limited sense). I think that the notion to rely on your intuition when doing readings of any kind means exactly the same as well: To make use of past experiences, the common sense, the logical links between factors at play in the provided issue that is being questioned, imagery, and any other details the cards are showing you as a tool to help you build your advice with. The cards are words, it's up to the reader to choose how to form a sentence or two with it; your fluency comes down to your skill of choosing the appropriate words that correspond well with most- if not every- angle(s) of your context. The above saying would apply to any form of reading that includes a medium from which a visual/ distinct logical pattern could be derived; be it Tarot, Lenormand, Playing Cards, etc. When you reach a certain point in which you've grasped the basics and can do a reading with some extent of ease, it might also be fulfilling or entertaining enough to add some extra methods to the standard practice as well. I, personally, have recently begun experimenting with adding astrology to my tarot readings. This really helps me add some details to my readings I could have otherwise overlooked, and brings in a certain depth that adds to the whole story. It's an addition that might seem daunting at first, but in my own experience, makes the reading much more informative and fun to do. If you're interested someday, you could expand your knowledge not only on the astrology part but also the colors, numerology, and tons of other details. There's a bunch of very helpful information discussed in this forum which could be found with a little search. Edited December 1, 2024 by Moon-Hermit
Celine Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 So glad to read someone talk about reading for tv shows and the like ! I'm not ready to read for others (unless there's someone who would like just a practice buddy) and I'm the worst material as I have very little going on in my life. For now I've only done readings for tv shows I know by heart, it is still very interesting and makes you look at the cards differently. Also because you tend to look for something that matches what you now, you are bound to understand different aspects you hadn't consider before (regarding card meaning), as well as have a different understanding of the show itself (not that it's the most philosophical endeavour....) Now I should like to try on tv shows I've never watched.
Misterei Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 (edited) 2 hours ago, Celine said: So glad to read someone talk about reading for tv shows and the like ... Everything @akiva suggests. Also, I encourage students to do fictional readings. Make-up an imaginary person with an imaginary issue or question. [Jenn wants to know if Alan will propose marriage, Darrien wants to know if he'll get the job he interviewed for. Marisa and Eduard want to know more about the core issues in their marriage, etc.] Obviously do this with a sense of humor and exploration. Play is how children and baby animals learn. It's good for adults, too. Many people read on weather, sports competitions, or political events [although the latter we're not allowed to post on this site]. All these are good ways to learn the cards and develop accuracy. Pick topics where you will get the results quickly [i.e. read for the sports competition tonight--not the grand championship in 6 months]. Edited December 1, 2024 by Misterei

Guest Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Empty your head. It sounds easy and simply, but not so easy in practice. If you read for yourself, a self-improvement reading of a type, then you have to work very hard to achieve that state where you are not bound by expectations and feelings.
222 Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 meditate, have some calming incense or scented candles going, and some calm background music or binaural beats
LGG Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 Awwww, that's lovely. Thank you so much for the advice 🫠
