Book of Thoth

Is BoT a good source for Thoth deck reading practice?  Of course it is the original text for Thoth deck.  But I find it too much focused into the design and description of the images in the cards rather than what each cards mean for the practical daily life readings.

Would it be because Crowley thinks practical readings can be done via the correspondence with Astrology and Kabbala when reading Thoth deck?

The images in the Thoth deck are not very intuitionistic for me in describing and connecting with the daily mundane life events, causes and reasons for the practical readings.

Maybe I am not an image oriented Tarot reader.  But I still try to learn with Thoth deck because it seems more accurate in the selected cards for the questions than the other decks.

How do you deal with this problem, if you have experienced the similar situation?

Are you aware of Lino DuQuette’s book? It’s often regarded as the best intro to the Thoth deck for actually working with it.

Another really good one is Snuffin; also Banzhaf.

I have the DuQuette's book as well.  His book talks a lot about the background stories how Thoth deck was made, and just explaining what the images in the each cards are for along with one or two liner meanings from BoT.   The book is not helpful in divination for daily or practical life at all.   It would be a good book for the people who want to know the background info and history of Thoth deck.

Yes, Snuffin's book is better, because it avoids the informal chat writing style of DuQuette's book.

Fascinating. I found all that to be immensely useful in approaching the deck.

Yes, it is.  My impression on Duquette book was when I first time bought the book a few year ago.  I have not read it since.

I will take it out, and do another reading to see how it feels and reads different from the first time reading a few year ago.

Let us know what you think! Not every book is for everyone, of course—nor every deck, as I've found out the hard way. 😞

Yep, I took out the DuQuettes Thoth Book after a few years since I read it first time.   It seems reading a lot better.  His writing style in the book is actually very nice and academic compared to his Chicken Kabbalah.    I am glad that you mentioned the DuQuette's Thoth book.     Maybe it is the book that reads far better in 2nd or even 3rd time reading.  It has good depths, rich info,  and supplements BoT very well.

Thank you for your suggestion for the book.
