But back to the topic... I like the quote you included, by a neurologist.  "The brain generates the consciousness, but the consciousness gives us the ability to do things that we wouldn't be able to do if we weren't conscious."   The brain is capable of much much more than we realize.  I've read just a couple of books about the plasticity of the brain and it is fascinating!

This reminds me of the books by Lothar Schäfer. He was a quantum physicist who wrote several books on the omnipresent consciousness of our universe. I read his Infinite potential, and it was a very fascinating read.
