Yola Posted January 27 Posted January 27 (edited) When another tarot reader reads for you, do you usually add new meanings to the reading? For example, I will mention a personal experience: I ordered a New Year's reading for myself with a professional tarot reader - I prefer to have someone else read for me, on certain occasions, so that I am not biased - In the predictions for my health, he mentioned the Justice card and interpreted it beautifully. When reflecting on this card, I remembered that, within my tarot studies, Justice (with its scales that measure everything) can indicate the prediction of exams, such as blood counts, etc. In this case, I received the printed reading, without any dialogue with the reader. Do you think it is right for me to add this personal meaning to the reading, even if it was not mentioned by the professional, but it makes sense to me? Do you think we can expand the reading, adding new meanings that emerge intuitively, or will we be 'contaminating' the reading done by that person? Edited January 27 by Yola

I personally do believe in adding to a reading after time for reflection, however, not necessarily in changing it exactly. Meaning, that if the interpretation I am aware of enhances and supports the reader's message, than I think it is valid. I think if the reviewed intepretation is exactly opposite or changes the outcome, than that takes away from the gift of a reading. The idea of having the reading by someone else was to not read for myself so I would not be changing it, but adding additional context to what I know is happening in my life works for me.
doubletaurus Posted January 27 Posted January 27 I agree that it's appropriate to add your own meaning to the cards. The reading is for you, thus your own personalized meaning makes sense, kind of like teamwork between you and the reader. I know when I do readings for others, I always make sure they see the cards I pull, because there may be something significant to the querent that I don't know about or that my intuition may not glean.

DanielJUK Posted January 27 Posted January 27 When you pay for a reading, you can do whatever you want with it next. I sometimes have put my own ideas on the cards and interpreted it myself. Especially if it was a bad reading or I really disagreed with their ideas But I also think that readers have different perspectives and angles. I exchange on the forum and sometimes buy readings to get a different perspective and sometimes methods outside my own. There is something about respecting someone else's ideas and process. This is their reading from me, different to reading for myself. I am carefully on this forum of not doing this, someone has read for me and I have to respect their process. I really try not to say, "oh I think this card means *this actually*". This is a point where sometimes arguments happen here in exchanges. There is a line with this where we shouldn't be arguing with the reader with the meanings of the cards (let's call this the extreme end of the scale of this discussion). In forum readings, the place is in feedback and to ask how they came up with that idea. I really recommend not doing this with the reader, but do it privately with your reading if you want. I have had readings with methods and interpretations far from my own but the accuracy of the outcome and message is the most important part. So for me, I like seeing different ideas and perspectives than my own and so I mostly try not to do this! Sometimes in a paid reading, someone has had the most terrible take on a card or a really "generic" idea and so I do look at it myself. Etsy and other online places are flooded with AI generic readings now. So I think there is a line with this but it's okay to reflect on the reading later and add to it. I just worry someone might be changing the reading in a biased way to say what they want 🙂 .
