Hello everyone. Recently, my mind has been going heavily in circles about a certain topic and I drew the cards a couple of times with different spreads. The results were similar with their message and now I am wondering about the origin of the cards' message? Am I attracting the cards based on my deeply engrained beliefs in my subconscious? Or is the result rather to be seen as an "objective advice"? I hope you understand what I am trying to ask. 😊

I would say it depends on what kind of question you asked.

If you didn't ask a question, but just drew some cards and hoped they would give you some insight into an issue, then I'd say the result would probably reflect your ongoing state of mind plus the circumstances of the issue. The cards would reflect the 'state of things at the moment' and give you something to analyse.

As to where the origin of the tarot's message comes from ...well, I think we'd all like to know the answer to that!  We all have theories; I just assume that if the cards tell the truth, I don't really need to know what's behind them.  Is it me reading into them what I want to see (or fear to see)?  I don't know.  I also don't know if I attract a certain kind of reading.  I suspect not, as sometimes the readings show what I want to happen, while other times they shatter what I'm hoping will happen.  The biggest challenge for me is to settle back and really open my mind.  It's a challenge to not see 'bad cards' as a catastrophe!  How many times have I received The Tower or The 10 of Swords in a reading ...and yet, here I still am! 🙂

If you asked an actual question rather than just insight,  however, then Advice might come into it.  Myself, I ALWAYS ask for advice, and always include a section of the spread to give it.  For me, the advice is usually the most important part of the reading.  Actually I rarely ask for an 'outcome,' but rather take the advice offered.  That usually does the trick.

How we get a message in the cards is a philosophical question, we don't know the answer for sure. It's all very High Priestess, we can only guess and decide for ourselves.

I think the big debate is if it comes from us or another force? Does it come from the collective unconscious, through us (like Jung said) or angels, God, Goddesses, spirits, our dead loved ones? I think we all have different ideas. Maybe it's just from us looking at the pictures or what we have learnt.

But the question about being objective, even if we get the knowledge from somewhere / something outside us, how do we interpret it and give the message objectively? "The ideal" in tarot reading is to do a reading objectively for others and for ourselves but really it's tricky. I know on this forum there is some people who cannot read for themselves. I think you can only know if we are reading it objectively if we get other opinions. I know that sometimes I do have to ask friends to read for me or give me a second opinion, I am just too close to it. Also when you get to 5 posts on the forum, you can post readings with your interpretation to get second opinions and ideas from the members. So I don't know the message is objective because I am interpreting it and sometimes I am just too close to the subject. It's definitely easier to read for others.
