Automatic post censoring

Featured Replies

Just curious. I am on a few invision forums, so this isn't an invision thing. Most, when you post a word that the forum owner doesn't like, the software is set to change it to **** or in one case, ****

Here, all of a sudden - testing gave me this,, And for the record - the word in question wasn't highlighted anyway.

Surely just kicking out the word as the software used to was enough ? Is this overkill really necessary ? Clearly there are many words the forum doesn't allow, but the others get substituted with stars. Not this one....

I was PMing with a friend. I used the f word which the friend and I are OK with; I would never use it in a thread. . It seems to be the only word that triggers that rather spectacular orange response; until I edit the word out (or simply use well placed hyphens) my message simply won't post. Is that one word so much worse than any other ? None of the other words I have tested does more than substitute asterisks, but the f-word gets that startling response. (I am testing other rude words in a PM as we speak ! Thus far either I don't know any other words that rude, or it really is the only word that gets such an extreme reaction. And I've tried some shockers.)

Thank you. I am slightly surprised by a couple of the words I tested that still get through - but that's perfectly OK with me !!!

No rush, LF. I read an article once about how "shock words" have changed. They used to jail Lenny Bruce for using the F word! Even the milder ones like the "female dog" word were forbidden. "Dirty" words that had people gasping and clutching their pearls at one time aren't such a big deal now. We hear them all the time. They're just words for things like bodily functions, body parts and sexual activities. I don't mind them, but I understand that some people still find them objectionable and you have to censor some of them.

But the real shock words these days are racial slurs and homophobic slurs. I'm perfectly OK with that, those words are ugly and the intent behind them is loathesome. Please do censor those.

Instead of changing them to asteriks, a now-defunct forum I used to frequent would change them to things like "I'm attracted to livestock."
I can't quite picture you doing that, but it was hilarious.

Yeah, there are quite a few I have to add in there that are hugely problematic.

Okay, you've got me tempted. What the fart?

That one is censored on the dragons' forum !

I don't come here as often as I used to, but I'm a subscriber. Yet, while I'm typing this, I'm getting a message that says "Your content will need to be approved by a moderator." Yikes.

Nice to see you around the place again @FLizarraga 🥰

In this section, all posts and thread have to be approved for everyone (it's nothing personal 🙂). This has always been the case.

This is the only section of the forum where you can post without logging in. Sometimes our members get locked out of the forum and so they can post here for help. Unfortunately it also gets a ton of random internet spam so we only approve actual posts from our members.

This only happens in this section.

Oh, thank goodness. That makes perfect sense. I thought the whole forum had gone bunker bananas! 🤣

And it's good to see you, too, @DanielJUK!
