Hello everybody, the Knight of Cups is probably one of those cards I had more trouble with. I think I didn't really understand how to interpret this guy in readings.

Once I interpreted him as a peacemaker ,another time he was representing an artist, more precisely a musician.

In terms of love instead he happened to point to unrequited love or being too immature for a love relationship.

However, I still have a hard time deciphering this Knight, especially in terms of advice.

What do you guys think?

Thank you so much.

I misread ’peacemaker’ as pacemaker and my first thought was ‘how oddly specific and unusual for this card.. ‘ 😂

The Knight of cups as advice would tell you to remain open, curious, vulnerable and hopeful; That it’s okay to lean into your romantic, sensitive and poetic side.

As advice, I think this card could be saying to the querent that they need to have more fun in their life, or more affection.  It could also say that they would benefit from being more sensitive or compassionate with other people.  I also think the Knight of Cups is a people person, able to mix with lots of different groups, and is very well liked because he listens and is charming, so if someone is lonely or been isolated for a while, this card says to get out there, meet people, mingle, take a chance to make friends.  I think there could also be some immaturity there, and the possibility of letting emotions run away from them and so, regarding that, the advice could be to keep those tendencies in check.

It's not my favourite card either.  I might feel differently if I was young, starry-eyed and looking for love. But I'm old, grumpy, and happily married, if that's not a contradiction in terms.

When I'm reading for myself, the upright Knight of Cups either refers to some person I know, or, that I should accept—or offer—a gesture or invitation that comes from a sincere heart.  I usually interpret knights as 'taking action' in their particular suit, so this would mean some sort of active gesture or invitation, not just a state of love or emotion.

Reversed, the Knight of Cups could mean the gesture or invitation appears, but is not reliable ...either because the person is insincere, flighty, or is being overly emotional and mushy.  I'd receive Knight of Cups reversed overtures with a grain of salt.

Or ...a reversed Knight of Cups COULD mean that a heartfelt action or invitation I was hoping to get just isn't manifesting itself.  This is not usually cause for despair these days, only disappointment, or maybe slight disgruntlement. I think I'm too old and cynical to fall into despair because 'sob ...nobody loves me!'  A younger person might feel this lack more strongly than I do these days.  🙂

The Knights all have a flaw or undeveloped aspects of the suit. They think they are a King or Queen and they are far from the Page but there is an immaturity there.

The Knight of Cups thinks they have mastered their emotions but actually their emotions control them. They are highly ruled by their heart. They can be like a lovesick puppy in love, with romantic poems and playing the guitar outside your window. But if it ends, they can be annoying and you cannot get rid of them. They can also be really moody and intense. They can be really flirty but it's important to remember they are insecure and need reassurance. Also they can be so carried away by something emotionally that they don't think practically or rationally, they probably make bad decisions in love. They can be brilliantly creative, writing, artistically, digitally and making things rom their dreams. They can be beautiful like a model but a little sulky in personality.

If it comes up in a reading, it can show something of emotional benefit coming your way. It's important to remember though that you need to add a little rationality, don't get too carried away by your emotions. Sometimes we need to do something creative from our emotions, with no logic whatsoever! In RWS and similar card images, they are inspired by the cup in front of them on the horse but they are ignoring the world around them and path forwards. They might be a flirty and romantic date but there is no thought about something long term after that. Charming but flaky! Waite said it was an arrival of a messenger which would be news / message about the suit.
