Hello everyone,

I am EtherealReveries, I am a 25 year old woman working in healthcare. My relationship with Tarot is very inconsistent - I have been reading on and off since I was a teenager. I am looking for a supportive community that does not use AI. I've been a part of other Tarot communities but the use of AI has really put me off. I am also hoping that I can participate in exchanges and practice reading intuitively 🙂

Thanks for having me!

Welcome.

Yeah. Tarot and AI.  Some people here use apps and there have been discussions about chatgpt readings and AI images in decks and whatnot. But most of the folks here do real readings with real cards and real human brains 😉

I'm curious about your experience, tho -- Were people getting readings from chatgpt? or? How are they using the AI?

Well, I was a part of a Tarot community in one of the biggest social media sites, not sure if I can name it here. The way people were using AI was dishonest. Most of the "readers" had Etsy shops, and they were offering readings for free in hopes of gaining traction to their Etsy shops. However, these readings were completely AI generated without disclosure. And they denied using AI when confronted, even though it took them 5 minutes to write up an elaborate, multiple paragraph reading 🙂 Others used AI in exchanges to get a free, real reading without putting in any effort themselves. So I've quit that community. It's sad that Tarot has become a way to scam people.

Welcome to the community @EtherealReveries :animated-smileys-signs-085:Glad you have found us here 🙂

Yeah a lot of those "quick free readings" on sites are entirely typed into AI and I used to love readers on Etsy, but they are all generated mostly now. Unless you know the reader before the site (and some members here sell readings there genuinely). I have really seen it balloon this year in growth. I was thinking of starting a discussion about it but didn't get around to it but big clues are you get the reading really quickly, especially long readings and also no photos / video of the cards. Real red flags I think.

The readings and exchanges here, seem to be real people putting in the work to practice and learn, I think they are all genuine. You can access those reading areas when you get to 5 posts around the main forum areas. We have monthly exchanges and you are welcome to join in with them when you get to 5 posts 🙂:78496:

Hm, can you say which community it was? I'm going to form my own opinion of course, but I'm thinking it helps to exchange experiences between people who take Tarot seriously. When we can talk openly about what we have seen in what place, it helps. Otherwise, we are all on our own everywhere else.

I'm thinking, though, that many of the "does he still think of me" Tarot questions might in fact be better served with an AI reader.

Hi, the website is Reddit. It's great for information and learning new things, but exchanges are a bit of a mixed bag 🫠

I had to leave reddit tarot years ago--even before this proliferation of AI readings you describe. My personal experience was inconsistent moderation. Mods coming down hard for something harmless but then paying no attention to questionable or even hurtful behavior. Much sympathy--I know they're volunteers--but I had to leave. The final straw for me was posts about how the image of Empress as pregnant was "heteronormative" and needed to be sanitized from Tarot because it was offensive. Really? A picture of a pregnant woman is offensive? But I digress.

A few years ago I figured out that people selling readings for $5 on Etsy had to be using AI or whatnot to crank out high volume low cost nonsense. LOL I want to say you get what you pay for -- but on the other end of the spectrum I've heard about some youtubers selling outrageously expensive readings that basically suck. *sigh*

My experience on this forum with reading exchanges has been great. People put effort into honest readings and the mods make sure proper feedback is given. Only once did a person in an exchange use an app without putting in personal efforts--and it was amazing how obvious this was. The reads didn't hit. Not to say every reading always hits--some miss the mark--but most of the time real readings by real people using real cards DO hit. 😉
