Rayne Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago (edited) I’ve been re-reading some threads about the page of pentacles in the old AT forum. I wish I could comment on some of those threads, but, alas, I cannot so I’m starting this thread in the hopes of getting a discussion going. I think other than the standard meaning of a child who is serious and studious, the page of pentacles could mean someone who has received something (perhaps an offer—of a job, opportunity, friendship, love, etc) but is taking a long time to decide whether he wants it. The RWS image shows a young man holding a pentacle and looking at it with wonder, but I get the feeling he’s also deciding if he wants to keep it or set it down. Like he’s looking at it long and hard, weighing the pros and cons. Given this is the suit of pentacles, he’s careful and meticulous in his decision-making process, which is why it’s likely to take a long time. Also, pentacles are slow. Thoughts? dancing_moon Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I don't see why not. "Reflexion" is certainly one of its meanings - yet another one of Waite's nods at Etteilla, reflexion and meditation being part of the card's "studies/apprenticeship" aspect. And Pentacles are indeed slow, so whoever is shown as a Page of Pentacles will probably take their time to study the offer thoroughly. Having said that, because all Pages are often news/messengers, Page of Pentacles is more likely to be the offerer than the "offeree" - in fact, he can even signify the offer itself. Just some thoughts.

Thoughts? I agree pentacles are slow--but I don't use pages as timing cards. For example seeing page pents as someone taking a long time to consider a love message would confuse me. I see page cups as a love message and look to other cards to note the timing of it. Whereas page pents would be a message a about money or health. I would only take page pents to be a love message if the love interest is at work [if that makes sense]. Vis a vis taking time to consider something--to me page pents can suggest someone who is studying-up on something or who needs to study and gain more knowledge to make a decision.
Rayne Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago I’m not so much talking about a message (although, yes, pages can be messages). I’m talking about the page of pentacles signifying someone who is considering an offer, trying to decide if they should take it. Someone in the AT forum said they saw the page as taking the pentacle from the giant hand in the Ace. He’s not quite sure whether to take it or what to do with it. He’s staring at it in wonder, trying to figure out what to do. Not sure if this resonates with anyone, or if I’m just making things up here.
