Rayne Posted January 8 Posted January 8 These are the cards I believe represent change. I want to delve deeper into their differences and similarities. The Tower is the most different. It signifies some external event or revelation (often unexpected or shocking) that produces a change. The change could be mental/emotional or real. For example, you find out that your partner has been cheating on you, and you suddenly question if you’ve ever known this person. Everything changes. This is a Tower moment. The change from the Tower is externally imposed. Something happens to you, causing a change. Judgement generally refers to some kind of internal change. Often, when the card appears, you are called to make a change, but the change doesn’t happen to you. You have a choice. I think Rachel Pollack wrote that sometimes when Judgement appears, the change has already happened, but the person isn’t yet aware. I see this more as a spiritual or deep psychological change. For example, a person has become jaded, distrustful of others, and therefore isolated. They meet a new person who is genuine and warm and really wants to be their friend. Judgement calls the person to change their old pattern of isolation and mistrust and open their heart to this new person. Death is actually one I’m least familiar with. I know it means transformation. I feel the change in Death can either be external or internal. What do you think? Are there any other cards that mean change in some way?
DanielJUK Posted January 8 Posted January 8 There's something very profound about the Judgement change, like you say it's like an internal process where you want to change from the past. You might have taken the wrong action or made the wrong decision in the past. A lot of people see this like the great epiphany card or awakening. I think a good example of this is when people get to their 50's and realise they want a career change. They did this all their lives and now they want to retrain and want to work for a charity abroad or something like that. This is a sort of working it all out ourselves and it takes a while to work out who we really are and what we want 🙂 . The Tower card change for me is like a life correction but done in the most shocking way. If you build a house on sand, it's not going to end well. It's like finding out the person you are going to marry, is already married. You needed to know that, it's kinda important but The Tower would be like during the Wedding itself or the day before. The Tower eventually changes things to put you on a firm foundation but it's horrible at the time. It gives you a lesson to learn for the future. It's external because it's forced on you. After the Tower there is the rebuilding, in a better way. Death is a natural cycle of change in our lives. Everything dies or ends in the world, our dearest relatives, our favourite pets. The TV show we love won't run forever. It's sad but it's a part of life, just like births and new things coming into our lives. Cycles end and new ones begin, it's one constant in life. We have to appreciate the present and what we have at that moment in time. Next year it might all change. I agree it's an internal and external change. It can be the loss of a loved one (external) or being let go of your job due to restructuring (external) but also it can be you want to change from where you are working as you have had enough of that company (internal). It's the end of a cycle and you cannot fight that, that grim reaper comes or maybe an hour glass is running out of sand, friendships drifting apart, where you are working, etc. Maybe you are sick of the current cycle and so want to end it. It's difficult but it has to happen. Some other change type cards I consider.... Wheel of Fortune - you can't control the current cycles, where will it take you? (very external card) The World - This is the end of a cycle and a new begins. This is very much a natural completion though (internal and external) The Fool - New Beginnings, a whole new path and blank slate from what you had before (internal) Eight of Cups - Leaving, walking away for the promise of something better as things are so unfulfilling (internal + emotions) Six of Swords - Transition away from difficult circumstances. Moving to a new perspective (internal + mindset / thoughts).
