Nnaiad Posted May 10 Posted May 10 Hello everybody, I call myself Nnaiad. I have been reading tarot for a long time, but have never read for anyone but friends. I am trying to take it to the next level and maybe getting good enough to charge for readings. I read something once that says that if you only read for yourself most of the time, you get into a place where you just look at the cards and say, for example, "Hmm. Queen of cups. Love okay, okay. Oh! 5 of pentacles. Uh oh! Hmm! 9 of Pentacles. And Queen of Cups. Oh. Okay. I get it." And then you go on. I exaggerate, of course, the the main point is that you never verbalize what you see. So, it becomes a skill you did not develop. You have the skill to read, but not to verbalize. And I know that is what I need to work on. I am also learning about the decans and I think they deepen the meanings though sometimes they go against the picture on the RWS deck. I don't have a Thoth deck. But, I can still use them. But wow! Am I having a hard time memorizing them. I usually don't have so much trouble memorizing something. I am also interested in Chakra readings and am trying to get better at that. I think they give you so much information And I love examining the tarot like a book with themes, characters and plot. I'm such a tarot nerd that I can happily spend an afternoon doing that. lol So, glad to meet you.

Libra 58 Posted May 10 Posted May 10 @Nnaiad Welcome to the T, T, & M community. I´m sure you will love it here!
Nemia Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Welcome, @Nnaiad! I hope you will like it here. Have you tried journaling? It's a great way to track readings over time, and it forces us to verbalise what we see. It doesn't have to be a precious hand-bound journal and a squill. I use a note-taking app (UpNote) to write down my interpretations of a spread, and I take a picture as well. Sometimes, a reading makes sense only after some time has gone by. Or I discover that I avoided the elephant in the room... happens to me quite regularly! This forum also offers a lot of reading circles where you can get experience in reading for others. The feedback is an important tool, and since it comes from other tarotists, it's really helpful.
