Whisper Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Barring people's preferences, I'm curious about something... From all the oracles I've used, so far, I find The Faeries' Oracle be the best? Why? Because the cards are beautiful, but, above all, the accompanying book is amazing. Not only is there detailed information about each card, but the messages (straight and reversed) for each one are incredible. It really is an oracle that is absolutely to the point and gives such helpful advice. It's an oracle deck with which I have no problem doing spreads with. I've found, from what I hear, and the little I've seen, that the majority of oracles give us insight into ourselves, are good for meditation/contemplation and even for "self work", but don't seem to really work the way Froud's oracle does. Are there any other oracles that are this comprehensive, this insightful, this helpful and, may I venture to say, this accurate? Any that offer this wealth of real assistance? I'm not well versed in oracle decks, although I'm trying to grow my collection, so your insights are appreciated. <3
Whisper Posted February 13, 2018 Author Posted February 13, 2018 You have The Heart of Faerie by him as well? I do, actually. :) I find it is very good regarding questions about relationships, but, confess, that I prefer the Faeries' Oracle. Are there others (without being by Froud, of course)?
EmpyreanKnight Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 I don't have the Faeries' Oracle, but I do have Froud's Heart of Faerie and it's really good! Right now, I have an immensely fruitful working relationship with the Promethean Oracle. It may not have a very detailed companion book (altho it is beautifully produced), but it meets your other criteria - it is comprehensive, to the point, insightful, accurate, and it provides real assistance. I also had fun exploring the various heroes/gods/kings/etc in the cards. I found that really delving into them gave much more nuance to my readings. Also, the art is just unbelievable.
Flaxen Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 It's a tricky question - in some ways the Faeries feel like real beings...there is the strong sense that you are connecting with something other than yourself. I haven't really come across another oracle which has that vibe. Ones which are very deep and which I've had insightful readings from are the Anubis Oracle, the Camelot Oracle and Oracle of the Radiant Sun (sadly OOP). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I haven't really come across another oracle which has that vibe. I am with Flaxen on this. I have never, in my 30 years of working with tarot and oracles, run into a deck like this (not even The Heart of Faerie). I will swear till the day I die that the Faeries are real beings. They have been fluttering around me for about 17 years and they create experiences that no other deck has even come close to. If you get me on to talking about the faeries you would think I am a certifiably crazy person. My recommendation is to not try to find anything similar because I do not think there is anything like them. Just enjoy other decks for what they are. The Fairy Ring Oracle is very nice, and gives some really good readings. It feels nothing like the Froud Faeries, you will need to use the book extensively to get familiar with them, and they will not come to life like the Froud Faeries, but it is a very nice oracle.

You're right, Jewel, about not trying to find anything similar. Have to appreciate what each oracle brings. Those Faeries of Froud are alive, though. I've never quite come across anything like that, either. I'm attracted to the Anubis, though, but want to see what happens with the Wisdom Keepers that are in the mail.
Jewel Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 Shivani[/member] the Froud Faeries "made me" buy the Fairy Ring (it is technically their deck lol), and they guided me on how to use it. They made it quite clear to me that the Fairy Ring is a deck of cards and that they are not - as they put it to me years ago the Faeries Oracle cards allow me "see" them when they communicate with me, sort of a face-to-face.

It's funny, Jewel, but I was just looking at the Fairy Ring Oracle at AT and wondering whether this isn't an oracle I should be investing in. Had a reading that Dancing Moon very kindly did for me with this oracle which so impressed me. I'm a little put off by the (digital quality) of the artwork, but maybe the online photos of this deck really don't do it justice. What do you think? Have you been using yours?
Jewel Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 What do you think? Have you been using yours? I have not been using mine, but I have been focusing my attention on Tarot since last July so other than carrying my Faeries Oracle around (a 17 year habit lol), and I have not been working with my oracles. I did recently look through it again though, I really do like it and I would recommend it. The book has some great spreads, and I like the structure of the deck. I do not read intuitively with this deck, I always reference the book then let my faeries put it all into context of the reading. As I said earlier this is "their deck" LOL. But I do like and recommend it. Who knows maybe your Faeries are "making you" look at it LOL >:D

dancing_moon Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 For some reason, Fairy Ring Oracle works better for me than Froud's decks. The cards do look better 'in the flesh', and yes, the digital collage looks awkward on some cards, but it also adds spooky strangeness and odd deformity to the creatures shown in the images. I've found that this is a very no-nonsense deck, and it doesn't do fluff. The book that comes with it is very good, and after familiarizing myself with the lore behind each Faerie using both the information in it, googling, and many practice reads, I don't really have to peek into the book each time I do a spread. ^-^ The Fae that populate this deck are legendary/lore creatures, so this could contribute to the kind of 'impersonality' that comes from working with the deck (as compared to reports of personal alliances with Froud's Faeries), but there are a number of Fae there that you wouldn't be wanting to invoke anyway, so it's just as well. :D Froud's Faeries seem to be of a more accessible, personalized kind, and his decks look to me more like portal/invocation decks as I seem to recall they were intended to be a jump-start for anyone wishing to work with the Fae directly (Froud Faeries owners, please correct me if my recollection is wrong). The Fairy Ring book does contain some (cautious) meditations and exercises meant to put you in contact with certain Faeries' energy, but it's the kind of work where you can't be too careful, especially when working with traditional, ancient energies. :) No matter how ancient, though, I've found that the Fairy Ring Fae are always open to contact, chatty, and ready to help, especially if you can take a healthy dose of sarcasm and keep an open mind towards unfavorable answers and outcomes.
Jewel Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 Dancing Moon I think your assessment is spot on. And I agree with you, the Fairy Ring is completely no-nonsense and no fluff and the Faeries Oracle is a portal into faerie.
Falkor Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 I have the Faeries deck by Fraud and it's my favorite oracle so far. To all that feel that the faery from those images are real and that there are connections and portals...Guys, I strongly believe it's the case. This deck is unlike any other because it does connects us to their world. To them and their energies. And I find it amazing.

These faeries are alive. If you're interested, and if Alta will still take you, take a look at The Faeries Circle for March.
Falkor Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Thank you. For now I'll just watch the dynamics. I weren't here for a very long time.

Page of Ghosts Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 I can't say if it is indeed the only one since my experience with oracles has been limited and I'm usually not as fond of them as tarot decks, but this deck has become a favourite among all my decks since I got it about 3-4 weeks ago :)) Some things this deck does that sets it apart from others is that many oracles tend to have rather simplistic keywords that comes across to me as kind of... plain? I know I'm not the best tarot reader there is but one thing I enjoy so much about tarot is the mystery of what's going on in each card. This oracle deck actually does bring a lot of mystery. What is a "Gloominous Doom" or a "Fee Lion"? How is "Oh! That Gnome" different from the other gnome? The artwork is not completely uniform, but in a good way. Some cards have many faeries in them, others lonely, strange energy beings. Some faeries look very humanlike while others remind me more of animals. It probably also helps that I got some very good advice about first and foremost using my eyes and intuition with this deck and not solely relying on the book. It is a big and meaty book with lots of good info, but as the author says herself it's more of a starting point and different faeries might reveal themselves to you in different ways than what they did with her. As I type this I realise I've put off drawing my own Faery Guide aka Card 0 so I did that. I've found I like the ones who look less human so he has some fangs and lynx-ears and holds a potion flask in a forest under the crescent moon. A super simple pen drawing that I don't know how will hold up over time, but I'm glad to have him! There are many others holding things but none with a potion.
