Whisper Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Of all the Faery/Fairy realm Tarots, which do you find: a) the most "faery" like? (Truest to the energies of the fairies, siddhe and the denizens of the hidden realm)? b) the most eloquent? c) the one with the best accompanying book related to the faery domain? d) the most evocative? e) the easiest to read with? Thank you. :)
Flaxen Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 My Faery Tarot par excellence is Tarot of the Sidhe - hands down! No other tarot has come close for me in tapping into that energy. It doesn't come with a book but is easy to read and very evocative. Also, Emily Carding, the creator has written an excellent book about working with faery which would be a great companion. It's called Faery Craft. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You know how I don't like small cards, so this size is good. When I acquire it, I'll get Carding's Fairy Craft, too. Always good to have a companion book that adds insight.
Jewel Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Well I have to admit I am a total sucker for decks with a faerie theme and have quite a few, and I will say that no deck of any kind can touch my Faeries Oracle, but when it comes to Tarot decks my favorite for reading is the Fey Tarot by LoScarabeo. This is one of my primary reading decks. Do not let the art fool you, the deck is not childish and does not sugar coat things. The original publication came with a book, but it has been so long since I read it that I cannot remember much about it ... frankly with that deck I did not need a book. The Fey energy is definitely there. I do have the Tarot of the Sidhe, but I have to be honest it is one of the decks I need to work with, I have not used it though I have had it for years. I do plan to make this my deck of the month one month this year because it is evocative.

Thank you for mentioning it because, re-arranging my study the other day, I brought it out for the first time in years, and, now, you're encouraging me to work with it to see what it tells me. So cool!

Thank you for mentioning it because, re-arranging my study the other day, I brought it out for the first time in years, and, now, you're encouraging me to work with it to see what it tells me. So cool! When it first came out I was a bit apprehensive because of the art, I thought it would be a fluff deck. A friend encouraged me to get it, assuring me that my misgivings were unfounded, and she was right. I am really glad I listened to her because I have found it to be a wonderful deck and one that is accessible to readers of all levels.
GreenFaerie Posted February 24, 2018 Posted February 24, 2018 The Victorian Fairy Tarot was my first deck, the deck that I chose and that chose me, and it is still my absolute favorite. The art is stunning, and Lunaea Weatherstone wrote the book, which is absolutely captivating and beautiful. You might be inclined to dismiss the deck as being fluffy, but it has never hesitated with me. It is harsh when it needs to be, and like all fairies, it likes to play with you a little bit and be a little deceptive. You have to learn how it thinks. I am also a huge fan of the Tarot of the Hidden Realm. It is a little darker and less charming than the VFT, but still just as powerful and beautiful. The book feels very wild and pagan, and it is another book that has beautiful prose.

Another one I love is the Secret Forest. It's more with bugs but there are some darker (visually) fairies in it also. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/secret-forest/
EmpyreanKnight Posted February 24, 2018 Posted February 24, 2018 Huh, I just noticed that I don't have any fairy-themed deck at all. :o If I'm pressed to get one tho, I'd probably grab the Faerie Tarot by Nathalie Hertz (all those vivid colors!) or the Paulina or Joie de Vivre decks by Paulina Cassidy. I've heard that the Hidden Realm has a good companion book tho and I'm a sucker for those.

Not in the sense of being edgy, but just very monochromatic. Oooh, thank you for mentioning this one! It looks interesting. :)

Together with the DruidCraft, and the Journey into Egypt, it has become my favourite Tarot. As GreenFaerie says, the books really is very good, too.
EmpyreanKnight Posted February 24, 2018 Posted February 24, 2018 Huh, I just noticed that I don't have any fairy-themed deck at all. :o Just to clarify, by decks here I meant Tarot decks since that is what the thread is all about as per the title. I do have the Heart of Faerie Oracle by Froud and I liked it. :)

Did I understand you correctly?

And now I notice that your avatar is the Queen of Spring from the Victorian Fairy Tarot. :)

I wasn't referring to your post btw, I just read my first post in this thread again and just wanted to clarify that I may not have a fairy Tarot deck, but I have an oracle one. I wasn't referring to the Hidden Realm in that post. :)
Whisper Posted February 24, 2018 Author Posted February 24, 2018 @EK Speaking of faerie decks, are you thinking of joining us over at the Faeries Reading Circle, EK? I know you're awfully busy.

I'm going to join when I get a fairy Tarot deck, so unfortunately I won't be able to participate this month. I hope to do so in the future tho.

I have the Nathalie Hertz deck, and I would honestly recommend the other 3 you have your list above that deck. I have them all. I have not worked with the Hidden Realm yet, so I cannot comment on it, and between the Paulina and Joie de Vivre I would recommend the Joie de Vivre. The Pauliana is gorgeous, but it is really busy. The Nathalie Hertz deck just felt flat to me in comparison to other faerie decks.
EmpyreanKnight Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 Thanks, Jewel! I honestly find your detailed deck review on the Joie de Vivre a bit enabling. :)
