Fly Cards in Readings

Do you find yourself compelled to include the additional cards that can be found in some decks in your readings?

Sometimes, I include the Unicursal Hexagram card found in the Thoth Tarot. I've heard that some readers include the extra four cards featuring PCS's non-Tarot artwork in the Smith-Waite Centennial Tarot.

I love additional cards. The Unicursal Hexagram is a must, and I've included both additional cards into Arcus Arcanum (the White card and the Chaos card). Golden Dawn Magical gets shuffled with both Temperances as well. If the 'cover' card (the card with the deck title put over and/or under the deck by LoS and USG in particular) is especially beautiful, I also include it.

I'm guessing this is like what the Akashic Records card is in my Starchild Akashic deck? I love having it in there! (ó ꒳ ò❀) (Though it did confuse thef out of me when it popped up reversed for the first time, Danielle doesn't give a reversed interpretation for it in her guidebook, unlike every other card.) It's added so much to readings the few times it's shown up. Like, it makes sense. Thinking of the deck without it in makes it feel incomplete... :/

dancing_moon[/member] That's cool you do that with the cover cards! I've never really thought to do it with my mini deck, I feel like I have to try it at some point now... How do you normally decide how to read them/ascribe a meaning to them? (Intuitive based on the picture? Related to the card that's on it? Someway else?)

The book said that one is used for divination while the other is for ritual, but ahem, I think I'd try using them both at the same time in my next readings using the deck. >:D

I'm a sucker for beauty, so I'm quite guilty of this  :))

Cover cards are usually my 'surprise'/'strike of luck'/'divine intervention' cards. :) I usually don't see them as related to the card depicted on it, because it would just be a double, and why would I need a double, right? ;)

I put it back in & reshuffle. But I have old arthritic hands...but I don’t put special significance on flyers, etc. i start from scratch. Although, I do take note of it. ;)

Sometimes they can mean more than I ever thought they would.  Last week my sister called to let me know a friend of ours had passed away.  While I was shuffling, the Death Card jumped and demanded my attention.  The next cards I pulled was The Fool, 5 of Wands, and 6 of Wands.  How's that for a message...

For me it depends. If it is a unique card, then usually yes, I include it. But if it is an alternate version of a standard card, then I choose one or the other, not both -- for instance, if a deck comes with two versions of The Lovers.
