Do you let other people use your decks?

If you have a close friend or family member who also read the Tarot, and who'd not be averse to letting you use their decks if you'd extend them the same courtesy, would you let them use the decks that you personally own? Would you be open to sharing your wholly collection with them, are there some decks that you may be willing to lend to them while others are strictly off-limits, or is anyone touching your deck strictly verboten to you?

Tbh while I'm quite generous with my other stuff, I prefer my decks to be for my own use only. All the readers I know have their own personal collection, and since they haven't expressed any interest in borrowing any of mine, I haven't explored this possibilty, really. But who knows, right? If a person I'm very close to happens to love the Tarot, maybe I can be persuaded to share. :D

How about you?

I have very few geographically accessible friends with an interest in tarot, but the ones I do have I would have no problem sharing most of my decks with, but there are definitely some off limit decks such as The Fifth Tarot, Victorian Romantic Gold, Fey Tarot, Cosmic Tribe and Joie de Vivre.  I think the Dreams of Gaia will end up falling in that category for some reason, but I have not worked with it yet.

Hmmmm, I'm not sure I would... Not sure I could. I get extremely attached to my stuff, so it would have to be someone extremely special for me to let them use one. The only example I can think of right now is I might be willing to let my sister use my Kiki Lala deck in the context of me teaching her their meanings and such, but otherwise I don't think I've met anyone yet that I would let actually use them. (If I knew other tarot readers I could meet up with in real life my view might change?)

I feel a bit strange when someone handles my really nice decks.  Decks I paid a good price for.  But, other decks I do not mind.  You can read a persons shuffle. Or maybe they don't even want to touch them.  Just that alone can tell you something about their mood.  I don't read reversals, but if a person shuffles the deck that way, thats what they get.

It's surprising to see how many people are not averse to sharing some of their decks. I've always thought that most occult/magick stuff are personal and private so that their owners would have a strict hands-off policy regarding them. From the responses here and some bits I've read in a few blogs, this doesn't seem to common now.

I personally don't mind having people touching my decks (As long as their paws are clean! ;D) or other readers borrowing them. I've borrowed and lent decks, so not an issue. Sharing is caring!

Sorry, but I can sum it up in one word: never.  <3

I'm happy to let some folks look at/through my decks - part of having a nice collection is being able to show them to friends, who also share decks with me that I haven't seen.

Reading with my decks, that would be very few people, and only some of my decks. Does that make sense?

Any OOP decks is a no-no (I rarely use them myself, I kinda hate the pressure that comes with owning a rare deck, lol) but any of my others? Absolutely, I would love to share.

Never. And I have been told its not even recommended to do so. In the beginning I was asking the querent to cut the cards but I stopped doing that. I just ask for the question and I will do the rest.

If you feel uneasy when someone touches your cards, then I definitely agree that it is best to avoid it. But if it doesn’t bother you, then do what feels right in the moment. One does not have to decide on a strategy for every single reading, things can be be more fluid depending on how the reader feels in that moment, and what seems to suit the client. One can also have separate decks for clients and others for more private use (or for collecting). That’s how I’ve been doing it every time that I’ve done professional readings. It just seemed to be what suited me best. But that might change in the future or on some occasions though, as I always go with what feels right in the moment!

Excellent point. Thank you!

You’re welcome  <3 I have also found that going against ones feelings is the surest way to block ones intuition

I probably wouldn't loan any of my decks to people, but I have no issue with people using them.

If one of our nieces or nephews wanted to borrow one, I'd let them take a Gilded or similar easy to replace deck.

I will even let them shuffle on their own, although not with any of my preciousssssss.....you know, OOP or whatnot.

Never. My card decks can not touch everybody.  :D Only if I give my "OK", they can do it.  :)

In-person readings can touch the cards but I won't specifically put them in the querent's hands. None of this cutting the cards business, get your filthy paws off my cards--I always wash and moisturize before handling cards. Once I had someone offer another person to do a reading at my place and I let them use a RWS deck that I don't really read with ;3

NOPE. Haha. Well there is one exception, I'd let my fiancee read with Sammy (my only deck) if she wanted to, but she has her own deck (that used to be mine before it decided to stop letting me read it =_=) and would likely never ask to read with mine. I'm really wary about letting other people touch my deck because I've had readings go completely skewed and messed up from that happening, so only if my gut tells me I can let someone touch do I ever do that.

Generally, I don't let other people use my decks.

Just don't like it!

I personally wouldn't. I get weird about people's energy or wondering if their hands are clean. And then there's the shuffling... Oh, and not to mention I would be afraid that they'd take the deck and not give it back.

I've let people look at my cards before but I don't think I can let anyone else do a reading with them. I feel like it would "throw-off" the relationship I have with my deck.

I don't let anyone else use my decks, no. They can look at them if they'd like, but they cannot use them for readings.

I have one deck that I call my "bar deck". It's a very worn, casual deck that I'll bring to parties or bars. I usually am the only one to use the deck, but on occasions I will allow friends to use the deck as well. Since the relationship of this deck is extremely casual and meant to be used with friends, I don't think it negates the deck. In fact in some ways I think it magnifies it's friendly energy. And it's fun to open up the tarot world to friends!

So, short answer, yes, on occasion. Depends on the deck, and the energy/purpose of the deck. I also have decks I won't even use to read for others, as these are my most personal decks. I don't like confining my practice too much by saying "never", because you never know what the universe might draw you to do. And isn't the energy of flow also the energy of allowing? ;)

Yes, I like other peoples energy on my decks.
