Your pets and your decks

How do your pets react to your decks/books/ritual items/etc? Do they try to invade your workspace, pawing your cards or distracting you while you work on your spreads? Do they always park their fluffy little selves on top of your decks? Or do they seem apprehensive of your private stuff?

Bonus points if you can post pics. :))

I'm sure my dog would chew those things, given the opportunity. He's grown, but still young. I just keep everything put away and/or out of reach.

Other than that, he behaves himself. That's the great thing about dogs, they don't jump on the table and mess with whatever you're doing. (We were talking about the Ensslin Lenormand elsewhere. It has a Cat card in place of the Cross. A friend remarked that he reads it as "nosy, interference." Makes perfect sense.)

None of my animals have had any particular attraction or aversion to those things, any more than other things I pay attention to, like the laptop. If they interfere, it's because they want attention.

My cat has never had an interest other than the usual “I see that you’re working, let me sit on your stuff”, which he also does to my sketchbooks. He does mess with my crystal collection though, and has a really annoying habit of knocking a rock down to tell me he’s hungry, but again I think that’s just normal gremlin boy behavior rather than any magical interest.

When I do kundalini yoga (mostly chanting), all three cats come and want to sit on my mat. When I do spells, my Oriental cat Ouija is always present. Bugsy, my cream Persian, and Pip, my domestic, couldn't care less. Bugsy LOVES to chew on my tarot books, though (there are teeth marks on the covers), but surprisingly has never once chewed on a deck (and I have them out all the time). Ouija will walk over my tarot spreads (so annoying!). We once had a little Himmie named Boo (who died as a kitten--FIP, very rare). He LOVED my cards and would bat them around. I'd come home to find a deck scattered all over the dining room table, and he'd be rolling on them, like they were catnip or something. Sigh. I miss that little guy.  <3

I found one of Sweet Boo and tarot. Is there a way to upload a video? I have one of him rolling on my tarot cards...Here's a link to Youtube:

My cat Henry, who is now deceased of old age (22), LOVED tarot.  He would always sit or lay beside me where he could see what was going on.  He did not interfere but was sort of my tarot buddy.  He would look at the spreads then at me as if he understood tarot which I thought was awesome.  Hermoine liked getting in the middle and always wanted attention when I would pull out my decks.  I am very casual when it comes to reading so I usually sprawl out on the carpeted floor with my decks and she would walk infront of me rubbing on me while purring loudly and step all over the cards in the process, but she never tried to damage anything.  My Shih-Tzu Lilli (the apple of my eye) is very well behaved, she usually sits next to me, but she hates the noise of shuffling.  It startles her.  She will sniff at the cards if I put them close to her but she never interferes, she usually just curls next to me and sleeps.

Arrggh Sandy that's one fluffy cat that looks like it was created to be hugged! <3 <3 <3

I have to admit that until two years ago I don't particularly like cats tho I adore dogs. Things changed when my mom got this devastatingly charming gray Napoleon cat who's just the sweetest feline I've ever met.She always accosts me for treats tho (we call her The Tollgate), and I have to be careful not to give her too much otherwise she'd end up fat and unhealthy. I don't let her enter my study since she tries to chew my books and even the edges of my laptop lol.

I am beguiled by cats (never met one I didn't like). I love our dog, too, though she is a 106 pound bag of emotional immaturity. :) She's a Great Pyrenees and has no interest in tarot or the occult. Mostly she just likes cookies (dog treats) and sleeping in our bathtub and digging holes in our yard and getting dirty.

Your mom's cat sounds lovely!!!!

The cat I live with/belong to likes tarot.  She likes to sit right in the middle of the spread and to bite me as I try to edge the cards out from underneath her.  <3

I have read for her in the past but the cards simply said that she wanted her dinner (which I knew anyway because she always wants her dinner.  No psychic powers required there.)

She also likes yoga mats...

That's a good old age!! Our oldest lived to 21. I love that Henry was your tarot buddy. And I never met a Shih-Tzu that didn't have major personality!!

My horse, Dreyfuss, liked to choose cards, drool & all, I let him. But I have to keep decks away from the dogs & cats, who like to either bat them around or eat them. Especially Harvey, a 120lb chocolate lab who isn’t even 1 yet. He’s still in that eat everything stage & needs serious supervision. He ate $300 a few months ago sob.

It's funny.  The other day I was doing a reading and I had my statue of Bast out.  One of my cats, Pythagoras jumped on the table and went right over to the statue and sniffed it.  He would have made himself comfortable but I was in the middle of the reading!  Here is the reading with my statue

I don't have a picture of my cat currently online.

I'm really fussy with my cards, as much as my cats like to lay on them, they aren't allowed to be near the cards.  They can be on the otherside of the table but not near my reading.  I often have a candle or incense going too and I don't like them near that.  I do  have a little video that shows my cat Miyagi lying on my table though.

Jeesh, that was taken so long ago, my corner has really filled up!

You're cat is pretty! Looks very chill. :)

Love your crystals. I have a dedicated room for mine. I usually keep that door closed, as I worry Ouija would bat them off the shelves.

Great pic and video. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you sandrang!  I have to dust my corner out soon so I'll put some updated shots up!  And I'll try to grab some current piccies of my cats.  I have 7 adults and 5 kittens.  The kittens are still in their 'kitten' room away from the adults.

Yeah, we should have named him Clifford, & he’s still growing. Thinks he’s still a lap puppy...ouch!

One of my cat is always curious of what I am doing and she always want to "help", while my other cat just seems to want to take a nap on top of any object I might be manipulating at the moment.

I love them to pieces, but they get in the way. I am very protective of my cards, and I dont want paw marks on them. I dont want my cards to be used as cat toys either (the cats can play savagely with truly anything... and then the poor item that played the part of the mouse, is crunched beyond recognition, and sometimes end up under the sofa, to be forgotten there for the next several weeks)

So I usually try and push the cats away, but they are stubborn. Most of the time, I end up locking myself in my bedroom to do a reading (leaving the cats outside the room of course)

When I was doing a summer solstice reading last year (led by Raven !) I laid my cards on a small surface on a cloth, and put another cloth on top of them, plus crystals to weight them down, so I could leave them there from one day to the next without the cats disturbing everything !

I have 2 cats and a dog.  My cats. Kinky a 21.6# all black cat. And Rhomey my 13# Black white feet and chest.  And Loki a German Shepherd who will be one on April 20.  When I do a reading Kinky is always around.  If I start one and she is elsewhere she will show up with in a few min of starting the reading, research or anything to do with tarot she loves to watch me when I work with the cards.  Rhomey dosnt seem to mind them.    Loki has eaten one of my books.  It was one called are you psychic I think.  He had to pull it out from under the table I had it under and ate the cover and a few pages.  Didn’t touch any of the other books right out but that one he did.  I’m not sure what to think of it.  Maybe he’s telling me he’s psychic.  I kept the book.  And taking about big dogs.  Loki was the runt.    I’m not sue how much he weighs now but he was 80 lbs at 6 months old.  Our friends home that he’s the biggest in town.
