[please move this if I’m putting it in the wrong spot!]

A while ago I thought I would see if I could match some of my Faerie Oracle cards with the major arcana. It's something I'd been contemplating for a while and I think it was relatively successful in my efforts. In some cases, there were more than one card that worked, in others, there was definitely a clear favourite. Here is what I ended up with:

The Fool - The Maiden

The Magician - The Faun

The High Priestess - The Dark Lady

The Empress -The Bright Mother

The Emperor - Himself

The Hierophant - The Oak Men

The Lovers - The Faery Who Was Kissed by the Pixies

The Chariot - The Rarr

Strength - The Singer of Courage

The Hermit - The Sage

Wheel of Fortune - The Faeries of the Future

Justice - UnDressing of a Salad

The Hanged Man - The Topsie Turvets

Death - Death

Temperance - Tobaira of the Waters

The Devil - O! That Gnome

The Tower - Gloominous Doom

The Stars - Iris of the Rainbows

The Moon - The Singer of Intuition

The Sun - Solus

Judgment - the Guardian at the Gate

The World - Unity

So my question for the others of you out there with this deck is: have you ever done something similar? are there any you would add to or change on this list?

Had never thought to do that, but this is brilliant!!. What a great job you've done, Fee.  <3 Will go and "speak" with my faeries, think about Tarot pairings, and get back to you. You know what would be interesting to see, too, is how Froud's Faeries pair with different Moons, Judgments, etc. Does Solus, for example, pair better with the Sun from the Mary-El, or from the Sun of the Hidden Realm?

Oh I can’t wait to see what you come up with! It’ll be interesting to see what differences there are.

Ooo that’s a really good question! What I tried to do when looking through my cards was find an aspect of each major (with my somewhat limited tarot knowledge that is kind of becoming an amalgamation of each of the decks I own,) that correlated with a certain faery. I know for sure that there are some combos that only loosely fit while others are the epitome of each other.

One that comes to mind, for me, is pairing Himself with the Magician... . Have to give that some more thought, though.

I'm thinking that the Tarot of the Hidden Realm might be a good Tarot comparison, so I'm going to take a look at both decks, side by side re. the Majors and the Faeries and see what happens.

I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with :D

Hmmm I wonder if using Thoth as a comparison would come up with different cards...?

Try it Fee.  :D That would be fun. I'm sure if I picked up another deck like the Mar-El, I might come up with alternative pairings in some cases.

My feeble attempts:

Fool -                        yes, The Maiden or The Journeyman

The Magician -            Himself

The High Priestess -    yes, The Dark Lady

The Empress -            yes, The Bright Mother

The Hermit -              yes, The Sage

The Hanged Man -      Lady of the Forest

I know you mentioned Major Arcana in your title, but I took the liberty of adding (- hope you don't mind):

Knight of Wands -      Ta'Om the Poet

That's how far I've reached, for the moment.

I also had the Journeyman as a Fool option, I felt that while he looks similar that meaning was too much like the Fool already partway on him journey rather than at the start of it...

The Hanged Man -      Lady of the Forest

??? Is that one from Froud’s second deck?

Lol I was actually thinking of doing this myself when I have more time!

I identified him with setting off on an adventure without really knowing what awaits.

No, #18.

Great minds think alike, Fee.  ;) ;)

Oooh! The Lady of the Harvest!

I’d be interested to know your reasoning here...

Misread. Sorry.

Because the Hanged Man has to view things differently, if he's going to have the freedom to move on. Has to let go of the past (past actions, past thoughts. For me, it's the whole idea of letting go that pairs these two cards.

Oh kewl! I just ordered it.

You will grow to really love Froud's Faeries, Canid. :)

Aaah, well, that makes plenty of sense!

Some great ideas for equivalents so far. The following would also fit certain aspects:

The Empress -She of the Cruach

The Emperor - He of the Fiery Sword

Both express the higher aspects of the female/male energy polarity where the Bright Mother and Himself are the earthy aspects.

The Devil - The Glanconer- he is temptation and plays on our desires to trap us.

The Stars - Singer of Healing

The Moon - Laiste, Moon's Daughter

Yes! Great pairings, Flaxen.

I would like to add for the Majors:

The Tower - Gawtcha - Sudden shock. Unexpected events. Rude awakenings.

and for the Minors:

3 of Pentacles - The Master Maker (22) - Skill, a level of Craftsmanship that can lead to originality

9 of Swords - G. Hobyah (61) - Imaginary fears. Unreal hazards, although they may be reason for caution.

2 of Swords - Indi (63) - Indecision. Decision Making. Waffling.

I am loving seeing what other cards go where [emoji3] I think when I originally did my list I was aiming for one for each major. I think I’m going to have to do a master list with all of your ideas in there as well!

I'm enjoying it too! I don't know them too well yet so this is very interesting. I did have the same ideas about who could be the Fool (Maiden or The Journeyman) and The Sage for me straddles between Hermit and Hierophant.

Me too! Brilliant! It will cut out so much of the learning curve...and mine are out for delivery right now so I’ll be plastered to a window the next few hours, waiting for the mail truck.

Oh, my. For once, I’m following instructions/suggestions in the book, but it’s going to take me a while to sort it all. I can’t decide on only 2 good or bad cards to become my Power Cards, but I’ve narrowed it to 4. During that process, something struck me. They could represent aliens. Or abductions. I watch a lot of Gaia & Ancient Aliens, etc. check this out...http://www.fairyist.com/what-is-a-fairy/are-fairies-aliens/

I can see that this will be a Project. But has anyone made the Faerie/Alien connection? I’m researching that first.

I like that idea, too. You posted a link somewhere else about that, right, Canid?
