Falkor Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Can this dark and deep deck be connected to goddess Hekate? I am researching some topic and wonder about this subject as part of the research.
EmpyreanKnight Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 Hekate is the dark goddess of the moon, so you might have a basis for connecting her to the Deviant Moon deck. From what I've read of her tho, I don't think that she's the whimsical type.
Falkor Posted March 19, 2018 Author Posted March 19, 2018 It funny, at first I was disgusted by it, it scared me. And suddenly I want to work with it. And in the same time, I am not sure I will wotk with it. It's so very gloomy in overall. Worse then Cecolli..

I like the Deviant Moon though. I look at the creatures as steampunk aliens. lol It's a really easy deck to use if you are just starting out though, it's very Rider-Waite.
Jewel Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 I did not find the Deviant Moon as dark as I thought I would at all, and it actually can be quite humorous. The art is incredibly evocative once you start working with it, and it is very RWS based. I find that it is very useful for both light and dark readings. Just my two cents. I love the deck.
Page of Ghosts Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 A lot, if not all, of the textures in the art was taken from photos the creator took in cemeteries, of headstones and mausoleums and such iirc, so you might be feeling that gloomy vibe from that. The brown industrial polluted sky might not be the most inspiring either, but the creatures in the deck seems to thrive nonetheless. It's not a deck I use a whole lot, but I don't find it too off-putting myself. It's more a case of not being in the mood for it or wanting to play with other decks, and very on the fence about getting the book. The extra info and Patrick Valenza's thought about the cards and their creation would be really nice to have, but it's quite the investment for a deck I don't use too often ;) One day I hope to make up my mind!

I find the antics of the characters quite funny, really. But then again I do love dark/gothic decks, so my threshold for creepiness is quite high. I like the Deviant Moon a lot.

Actually I love Cecolli A LOT, but it's still not a very happy deck, it has a lot of disturbing stuff inside. But with Deviant it's really about the base of the drawings. IT still makes me kind of uncomfortable.
