Pinterest as Tarot Enabler?

Does anyone else get enabled by Pinterest? I can look at a deck multiple times, then all of a sudden, I see a card or two on Pinterest, and suddenly, I need a new deck.

Today it was the Spiral Tarot.

Omg yes! I have many on my wish list that I found through Pinterest!

Absolutely! I like browsing on Pinterest generally but tarot is lethal.

I am at the stage with pinterest that I would avoid buying anything I saw there because it annoys me SO much. I "had to" sign up once to see one image I wanted to see. And was instantly plagued with emails about other things that I would like - none had anything to do with me. I did use an address I save for such nasty places - but still - although I checked no in every box I could find, they persisted for months.

And the number of things all over the web one hovers over to see the address (or even to "view image") and you get "Add to my pinterest" or "pin" - and a google image search brings up almost exclusively pinterest listings which you can't GO to because when you get to the page it will be way down and you have to sign in to view more. Ugh, no thanks ! That level of pushiness scores an ignore/avoid from me.

I use it mostly as a resource, but some of the cards I see there are so beautiful that that’s probably happened to me. Most of the time, I see cards that I adore only to realize they don’t exist as published Tarot decks and, then, I’m disappointed. *sigh*

I'm appalled at the sheer volume of uncredited work on Pinterest, when I'm doing a image search on google I include -pinterest.

I have a low level block on my blog and have been tasked for doing so. The usual sort of comment is 'you should take the block off, you'd get so much more traffic if you let people post your blog posts and use your pictures'. Really? Pisses me off just thinking about it.

It's the hauls and unboxings for me so YouTube does this to me instead suddenly my wishlist gets bigger 😅

Adding to what AJ said before, I have become so disillusioned by Pinterest. I just see my tarot friend's content posted there with their name / crediting and watermarks removed or obscured. I have seen spread pictures, deck pictures and spreads they have created on public social media and they are just stolen there with no attribution.

Why, don't you get enabled enough by this forum? Since I started to visit this site more often I am just buying and buying decks!!! I have Pinterest but I would not dare look there too! LOL

I’m the same. I don’t actually block it but I actively avoid any link that involves Pinterest. It’s partly because it is designed to keep you scrolling, but it’s also because of all the stolen/uncredited content.

It's also because of the sheer amount of dross that shows up on the page you thought might interest you.

Which had not been a problem if the owners of the different collections had set them private, so that they alone could have a cozy time with their collections of images.

It's not just collection; it's people who - for instance - will steal spreads from here that the owner has quoted form their own book to be helpful. And let's not forget when Adam used to sell his courses, people who had bought them uploaded them to places like scribd  - he had to give up that whole side of his business.  People scan whole books and post them....

@AJ-ish/Sharyn how do you do this? I'm curious. I do my website in Squarespace ... so I suspect if it involves coding it's beyond me. But something to think about.

I had this strange intersection of moving to a larger house AND joining this forum. A virtual explosion of deck purchases ensued. I'm now to the point of deep contemplation on "what is the right size for my tarot collection?" I don't have an answer yet. I'm not quite to the point of doing a "no buy" year ... but i'm beginning to consider the notion.

@gregory Uh oh. Who is Adam? I sell my course manual in PDF format. At this point it's such small scale specialized niche ... I doubt anyone would would put it on scrbd or whatnot ... but it's definitely a concern. So I'm curious to hear about this situation with Adam.

And yeah. I used to use Pinterest for construction and remodel projects ... it was good for that ... but it became too annoying and invasive. I don't go on it anymore.

Now that would make an interesting discussion in this forum...its so personal that we'd get some interesting insights I think!

One of us should start it some time...(Sorry slightly off topic)...

On topic: I hate pinterest.  Aside from obvious copyright issues the whole site is just so frustrating to use in my opinion.  This forum, Instagram and my local magicky shop is where I get enabler.  In person enabling is so much more powerful 😆

Adam McLean.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_McLean

Who was an avid collector for very many years but as he ages, has started selling it all off. He has a small forum (that he just set up after the server for his old one dropped dead...) He is also an artist and has an alchemy website (mods, if this link isn't OK, please delete...)

https://alchemywebsite.com

He runs an number of courses, and in the end made the tarot ones free.

And yes - pinterest is deeply frustrating all round. Click anything there and it demands you sign up or it won't show you anything, and so on. I don't use Insta either - I refuse to sign up to anything owned by Zuck, and it won't let you see anything if you don't !

Thanks @gregory. And yes. I also avoid Pinterest and the Zuck products. Never was on twitter thank god. Had to quit reddit. It's a slime pit out there.

I've had to do this often too, but not as much recently. Pinterest images are so aggravating.

I only come across Pinterest occasionally, and I didn't know that it's quite notorious. Yikes.

I mostly use Insta. Even if the Zuckerdroid makes my skin crawl, my main social media account is there since my circle prefers it. I'm just sad that, for example, vapid fitness content gets so much, much more engagement than deep meditative ruminations, so I have no choice in the posts that I make lol 😅

There are some really good Tarot enthusiasts there with well-curated posts though, that I follow through my shadow account.

This forum just makes my wishlist more and more huge same i literally got the confirmation i needed to make a collection since i joined 😅 but i have a thing for visually seeing unboxings i just love seeing the packaging guidebooks the cards everything the variety of decks suggested all at once the new discoveries this doesn't help on my now decks problem though but there are so many beautiful and different decks how can anyone resist really?🥴

I just googled how to block right clicks on blogger. It gives you the code and tells you were to drop it in.
