Oracle of the Radiant Sun - news!

Well this seems fitting since there's talk now of the newly reissued Moon Oracle, and I know several people have mentioned an interest in seeing Oracle of the Radiant Sun reprinted. Apparently it is happening! Eddison Books has announced they are publishing a new edition which will be out Spring 2019. Their catalogue here also mentions other forthcoming decks, some new and some reissues, including a reprint of the original Mythic Tarot for Autumn 2019  ^-^

Odd how (looking at the catalogue) the card images have had the card titles completely removed. I wonder if that’s an update. If so, I’d find it very odd. I love and use this deck and it is one of the few decks where I really rely on the card titles!

I really love Caroline Smith's artwork and so it's wonderful they will become affordable again and I can grab some of those decks. I hope they are not changed for the worse though Le Fanu  :'(

That is really strange. I’d struggle to read with mine without the titles - it’s a useful aide-memoire.

Glad it’s being reprinted though. I hope the box is better this time round - mine is held together with an elastic band and I’m always worried I’m going to lose cards. Should probably bite the bullet and get a bag for them...

Thank you RavenOfSummer!!  I never thought I'd get a chance to play with this one :).

Going to preorder it now Amazon UK! It's quite a pricey deck, seeing as the second edition Moon Oracle from this year is half that price currently but I have always wanted to own it! I am gradually catching up with Caroline Smith decks :) I am hoping if I preorder it, the release price will be actually cheaper  ;D Still this is cheaper than some ebay prices of the first edition  :)

The release date for all territories seems to be 28th February 2019

IMPORTANT: oracle of the radiant sun/ I just got a confirmation from Schiffer (Red feather) that the cards are in sepia tone not full colour like the original. This is such a blow for all of us who were eagerly waiting for a reprint.  :(

Thank you Tobi[/member] for posting what you found out! How disappointing! I don't want sepia cards, I want full colour, who came up with that idea at the publisher  :(

I might cancel my Amazon preorder of this new edition and decide what to do next. It was supposed to be released here on the 28th of Feb but I notice the date on my preorder has now been removed from Amazon UK and they are waiting for more details! It's still listed as that date on amazon.com - sometimes I notice that if they can't get stock over to Europe fast enough after release (or don't have the stock ready for the release date), they will add about 4 weeks transit time till they have it in their warehouse. Will have to think about what to do next!

There are very few pics online of the deck cards so far, like Le Fanu said the titles seem to be removed and they are Sepia, I need to see them before deciding what to do next and see some reviews of the reprint.

With the Moon Oracle, when it was OOP, the prices were so high! It was about £150 / $180 on ebay minimum! But when the new edition came out, first editions were about £20 or less! I am hoping this might give me the chance to get an original sun oracle at a lower price and at least will have it in full colour. I will have to do some searching :)

DanielJUK[/member] Hello!

Here's the story in a nutshell. First we saw in Eddison Books publishing catalogue from last year a page referring to the ORS being reprinted. The deck was featuring with cards in colour.

So far so good!

Then we saw pre-orders appearing on various platforms (Amazon, Bookdepository...) with a release planned late February 2019 by Red Feather (Schiffer publishing). I contacted Eddison Books to clarify whether there were two versions released. Eddison said that had handled the reprint to Schiffer which caused a lot of disapointment due to the infamous low quality of their cardstock. Then I bumped on Schiffer Summer catalogue Summer 2019 and noticed the cards were in sepia tone. So I wrote to Schiffer who confirmed they were. Someone else then contacted Eddison books back again who said they were being reprinted by Schiffer "in colour"... :o

It's a complete mess, so I have decided to wait for feedbacks/reviews to see exactly what's going on there. I can only wish the Schiffer customer rep had the wrong information. Reprinting this deck in sepia makes absolutely no sense!

And you're right, once the new edition is released, we may get a chance to see the price of the previous edition dramatically drop. Let's cross fingers!

Wanted this for so long so l'm waiting with bated breath and hoping it does come in the beautiful original colouring,  and with the keywords.

Fingers tightly crossed  :))

Thoughtful[/member] Same here  :(

More people from the FB group I subscribed are investigating to find out so I'll keep the thread updated when I have new information. One theory is that Schiffer used the sepia tone illustrations of the cards featured in the companion book for the catalogue but one question remains to me is why would a publisher do that instead of showing pictures of the actual cards?

Let's wait and see  :)

Hello, I have some GOOD news for you regarding the Oracle of the radiant sun.

Someone on FB just posted a picture of the new edition. It's in full colour  <3 I'm not sure why we couldn't get any reliable information from both Eddison and Schiffer but the printing is done by Eddison. Schiffer has other rights on the product. Which means for anyone hating Schiffer cardstock, it's good news too  :)

You're welcome! On the starting block to get it  ;D

thank you Tobi[/member] for monitoring this and keeping us in the know

How weird by the publisher with 2 days until global release that there is so little promotion of the deck, why do none of the tarot big names have a deck to review? Why are there no videos or pictures of the cards? They could have promoted this so much better and a red sepia pic in the catalogue seems a strange idea!

I cancelled my preorder on amazon a few days ago as a "wait and see" how it comes out. I think I will wait to see what it is like but if it's a perfect second new edition, in colour, I will buy it! This all sounds like much better positive news though   :)

firecatpickles[/member] you will love it

I plan on scanning a few cards and posting here to let everyone know.

Since I gifted this deck a few years back (I don't regret doing it, btw!), I've often thought about getting another one, if anything for the astrological associations alone: The description says "84 cards and a comprehensive guidebook". So, even if it's a boogered-up cards version it will be worth having for me.

Delivery date is March 6-7. I'll keep us posted!

DanielJUK[/member] You're welcome Daniel. I agree with the appalling promotion. Someone on IG mentioned the cardstock as 'super thin'. Since a lot of subjectivity goes with this, I too will wait for more reviews/videos. But globally it looks like a nice neat little kit 😊

firecatpickles[/member] Thank you, that'd be fantastic! 👍

Amazon has shipped my Oracle of the Radiant Sun kit with delivery expected on Thursday. I had the first edition for several years and referred to it often. So, I'll be happy to report back on card stock, etc. (So excited!)
