fire cat pickles Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 I'm looking forward to mine. From what I remember, it's the companion book that is just as useful as the cards, and the cards are great.
fire cat pickles Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 Got an email that mine should be arriving Friday! Although we have rural delivery so I'm not holding my breath. It's been a while since I've been excited about getting a deck. I guess I've really missed this one.
MoonGypsy Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 One of my all time favorite decks! <3 Here is an unboxing Vid of the new 2nd edition:
Louise Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 MoonGypsy[/member] Hello 😊, thank you for posting this video. It does look like the cards are super thin indeed!
Thoughtful Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 MoonGypsy thanks for the video link. l have totally fallen in love with everything about this deck. It is right up my street. l feel as excited as the guy in the video :D Wanted this oracle for so long, prayers answered, now l have to be patient for mine to arrive.
Madame Squee Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 My Oracle of the Radiant Sun kit arrived about an hour ago. It's wonderful -- everything I hoped for!!! Thank you for the video link, Moon Gypsy! It really covers everything a person needs to know. The only thing I would note is that, in my eyes, the colors appear be deeper and richer in person than they appear in the video. Also, if memory serves, these cards are larger than the original. I remember them being poker size, but these measure almost 4 by 2.5 inches. HAPPY! HAPPY! JOY! JOY! :dancecat:
Louise Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Madame Squee[/member] Thank you for all these details! It's good news for me if the colours are richer than in the video :) I'm still on a fence regarding the cardstock. What are your impressions? Any mm deck you could compare it with?
Madame Squee Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Hi Tobi <3 X/ I would compare the card stock to the Everyday Witch Tarot, except that the finish on the Everyday Witch is glossy, whereas the Oracle of the Radiant Sun has a matte finish. It appears to me that they share a very similar white core. When I place the two decks side by side on the table, four cards will slide from the OOTRS deck (84 cards) over the top of the Everyday Witch deck (78 cards). (Photo is attached.) So, the OOTRS may be two cards thinner than the Everyday Witch. (The glossiness of the EWT may account for this difference.) I like that the OOTRS deck is springy. The cards will ruffle shuffle just as seen in the video. I think the springiness of a card stock core saves me from putting bends into cards. I don't know if a card stock can be both thick and springy. For instance, I put two crescent bends in my brand-spanking-new Light Visions Tarot deck without even realizing it. Those cards are thicker than the Everyday Witch by 11 cards (comparing 78 to 78). So, the Light Visions Tarot has thicker cards by far, but it is not a springy deck. (And I shouldn't have tried to riffle shuffle it. It's old habit I'm trying to break.) In the end, I don't expect to have any problems with the OOTRS cards. They do have a protective finish, and I think they'll last a long time. :dancecat: ETA: I forgot to add the photo.
Madame Squee Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 <clipped> I like that the OOTRS deck is springy. The cards will ruffle shuffle just as seen in the video. I think the springiness of a card stock core saves me from putting bends into cards. I don't know if a card stock can be both thick and springy. <clipped> Okay, last night when I watched the video, I had the sound turned off. And I just went back to watch the shuffle again -- with the sound up this time. The narration that accompanies the shuffling surprised me. I don't think the cards are "weak", but they definitely are not playing-card quality. If a person wants to do a lot of shuffling, including the bridging, these cards most likely will not last as long as a deck of good playing cards. Personally, I do more looking than shuffling, so I'm happy. ;) ETA: I just realized that the OOTRS card stock most reminds me of my old Mythic Tarot deck. So, I've attached a comparison photo of the stacks. Actually, the OOTRS stack at 84 cards is 15 cards thicker than my old Mythic Tarot at 78 cards.
Madame Squee Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 I'm looking forward to mine. From what I remember, it's the companion book that is just as useful as the cards, and the cards are great. Yes!!! As far as I can tell, the content of the companion book is virtually identical to the original. This time around, I'm immersing myself in it, going whole hog and working up a 12-house layout cloth first thing. I can't tell you how happy I am to have this kit back in my hands!
fire cat pickles Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 I got mine last night when I got to the house! Very light shuffle, almost like Baba decks—I like it, the card stock... The book is definitely what I've been missing, too. The artwork is great. My "meet the deck' single card draw: Saturn in Scorpio. Much work ahead. Ha! No kidding. This morning, also an interview, my draw was Jupiter in Cancer, Sun in Cancer, Jupiter in Libra. Very direct! My natal horoscope is, indeed, Sun in Cancer and Jupiter in Libra. Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, so no further interpretation necessary. I think we're going to get along very well!
Louise Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 Madame Squee[/member] Thank you for posting a pic of the deck 😀 I have the original edition of the Mythic Tarot but it was a French edition (very thin and flimsy). I don't know if. I can rely on that. After reading your post I thought maybe I shouldn't obsess too much about the card stock 😂 firecatpickles[/member] I have one Baba deck so I see what you mean by light shuffle 😊 I guess I'll check if I can find it in my favourite esoteric shop in Paris. If not, I guess I'll still go ahead with it. The concept is so interesting!
