A few months ago the owner of the local book store asked if I would want to come in and do readings for people?  I explained I am still learning but would love to work with more people as I usually read for those I know.  And she asked about how much to charge or what not?  I’m not sure how it all works, but if I’m still learning would I charge or how would I go about it?  We talked about like an easy quick 3 card spread.  She asked me about it again the last time I was in.  I would love to do it and I have gotten pretty good feed back from the readings I’ve done in the past so i know I can I just don’t know about how it all works to do at a place and all that.  Any suggestions are welcome

Hi Nicalo,

Perhaps, setting a slightly below average fee would be a good idea. People often equalize no fee to no skills or 'faulty goods', and you wouldn't want to attract freebie hunters anyway. ::) We're all learning all our lives, so I'd mention it only in this kind of a global statement. ;) I'd put myself in the place of a potential sitter and ask myself: would I go to a reader (dentist/teacher/hairdresser etc.) who charges no fee or a very low fee and begins their work with confessions about how they're still learning and to bear with them? :o It puts yourself in a position below the sitter right from the start, and IMHO this is not a very good position for anyone, let alone a (potential) professional. ;)

Good luck!

How exciting! I would encourage you not to start out too low because you will probably get the hang of it quickly and then you might have to raise your prices significantly after a couple of months. That might feel akward for you and cause some confusion among customers. And also, I get the feeling that the only thing you really are lacking is some more experience and confidence, but that the natural interest (and well, talent if you like!) is already there. So I wish you the best of luck. It will be exhilarating, frightening and really awesome all at the same time  <3
