tarotnovice Posted May 20, 2018 Posted May 20, 2018 I was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to where I could buy my first deck of tarot cards. I live in the UK (in Kent, England, specifically) and am unable to buy them online for complicated reasons I don't want to bore people with, so I can only visit physical stores... :'( Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated, thank you! :) <3
gregory Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 The BEST if you can get to London is Watkins on Cecil Court. http://www.watkinsbooks.com/ Other good ones in London are Mysteries on Monmouth Street OMG they just moved ! http://www.mysteries.co.uk/ And Treadwells on Store Street: https://www.treadwells-london.com/ - I've never been but I'm told it's very good. Foyles aren't at all bad, either. And I have seen some on Camden Market, but things change there so fast... There IS Camden Lock Books in Old Street Station, though http://camdenlockbooks.com/ One of those should do. All of them will probably leave you bankrupt....
CharlotteK Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 Watkins Books has a much better selection of decks than Treadwell's - although the latter stocks some Tarot de Marseille decks that are not readily available elsewhere, such as Flornoy's Jean Noblet. I would head for Watkins in the first instance. It's a lovely shop with super friendly staff. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Flaxen Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 Atlantis Books is also worth a look and just a short walk from Watkins. They don’t have a large selection but they do have some more unusual stock sometimes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Victor Posted May 21, 2018 Posted May 21, 2018 Maybe you can find a Tarot deck in a books store in your city. Sometimes they have a little part of Esoteric, and there are a few card decks.
tarotnovice Posted May 21, 2018 Author Posted May 21, 2018 Wow, thank you so much to everyone for your replies! :) I was honestly not expecting this many so quickly! Found the advice really helpful, when I'm next in London (which won't be for a while, unfortunately :'() I'll definitely have a look in the recommended book shops! I'll also be sure to have a look around my local book shops too! Thank you so much to everyone for all your great advice :)
sneezedrops Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Hey guys, I'm always curious about decks, so when i see a picture of a couple cards that look interesting to me, i find out the name of the deck its from and go to youtube and search it. Most of the time, there is a video posted of someone showing the whole deck one card at a time, so i can decide if i want to purchase it. The purchasing part, unfortunately for me, is limited to amazon, etsy, ebay, and google. Appreciate the London sites written earlier! Be well.
DanielJUK Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 have you tried searching your area and "tarot shop" on google tarotnovice? I searched "tarot shops Kent" and there are many metaphysical shops around! But I don't know where you are near. I did this a few months ago and found a metaphysical shop in my far West London borough, I never knew it was there before :) Some of the results might be online only shops, so do see if it's a physical presence and if they have decks. You could always phone or email to ask! You might need to research it a bit, for example I found a nice one in Broadstairs but it's Angel decks only.
Amethyst indigo Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 I buy mainly from the book depository... and google images to get a get look at individual cards. The couple of shops near me that sell tarot decks dont have opened ones to look through anyway.
Wheel of Fantastic Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Atlantis Books is also worth a look and just a short walk from Watkins. They don’t have a large selection but they do have some more unusual stock sometimes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Atlantis Books is probably the oldest occult shop in London; Aleister Crowley was a customer in it's early days. It's also the only physical shop where you can buy the Sheridan Douglas tarot - a very groovy 70s deck!
