Hello all,

pleasure to be here. I'm ThreeCircleTarot and I'm looking to gain more of an online presence--it would be nice to meet some new people and make connections. Lately I've been putting my pictures and words online, feel free to check them out in my signature. A little bit about me:

I'm studying to be a counselor or psychologist. I'm spending the summer co-facilitating group counseling, crisis line counseling, and doing qualitative research at my local university. My focus is on supporting women who have had or are experiencing sexual violence. It's my passion! My other passion is tarot. I love looking at the cards for guidance and perspective. I've spent the last two months on another forum, Tarotsphere, giving readings for feedback and it's been an absolute pleasure to have the opportunity to improve my intuition and my reading skills.

I look forward to sharing and learning from you all :)

Welcome!  I'm not finding your links in sig work. Perhaps those are links you've signed in on, if so they won't work for us.

Welcome ThreeCircleTarot! I am new here as well, how long have you been practicing? Are you planning to incorporate Tarot in your clinical work? I have heard of counselors having success using Tarot as a tool for their clients self-exploration.

Ooh questions, thanks Pixie[/member]! I've been on the crisis line for two years and the group just one session so far. Been reading tarot for two years ish. I have no idea if I'm going to one day blend tarot and psychology! I've read Tarot at a Crossroads which made me first think about blending these two passions, but all the techniques in that book seem to be choosing cards from a face-up deck. Interesting enough I suppose, but I do like the mystery of a face-down deck...

Actually, just today I was on the American Tarot Association looking at their ethics (on their About page) and noticed that they stipulate that if a reader is trained in giving psychological counsel, it is most ethical to differentiate between their counsel and the reading. I can see making diagnoses based on a tarot reading being unethical, but I think using counseling skills in a tarot reading is a perfectly fine way of blending the two topics. I sense some more research and a blog post coming... thanks for inspiring me!

Hi ThreeCircleTarot and welcome to TT&M.  Tarot and psychology what a beautiful blend  ;D.  I was in counseling for a few months last year, and as it was time for me to move on (per my counselor, said I should actually consider becoming a counselor lol), I showed him my tarot journal and how I was using the cards to help me be self-aware, consider things from different perspectives, etc. and he encouraged me to keep up my tarot journaling as self-therapy.  The images can really unlock so much.  But I digress, welcome to TT&M and I look forward to seeing you around.

I think that we'd learn so much from your insights on the Tarot, ThreeCircleTarot. I've always been interested in how two distinct disciplines like the Tarot and psychology can be syntesized.

So glad to hear you were encouraged by your counselor, Jewel. Tarot is a tool with which so much inner work can be done. It's funny, I told my psychiatrist about my love of tarot and it turns out he reads too!

EmpyreanKnight, such kindness <3 It's interesting for sure. Psychological research (ideally) impacts the support/therapy given. When you're the one giving, you then develop skills that are extremely useful to use in tarot, such as an awareness of inner states. So some parts of psychology seem more applicable to tarot than others.

Hi,

Er, Earthling? Are you only talking to the Pentacles? Tish Poo! I'm a newbie who identifies with swords. In doling out relationship behaviours in my notes, I really, really reluctantly had to assign rape to swords. You have no idea how much that hurt. I'm convinced there are fake swords, those who think they are swords or are pretending to be. Fake knights and fake kings. In time, when you are ready, I want to hear your insights on sexual abuse and tarot.

Can you believe I thought and had to edit out "I'd love to hear about..."? Like anyone loves to hear about that! Sheesh.

It's funny, Ratty, I've actually tried integrating the topics before. I decided to post a writing on The Devil examined through the lens of abuse as part of a series on my blog. I'll be looking at healing from abuse from the perspective of Tarot imagery. Feel free to leave me any feedback or questions, you've inspired me to express my thoughts more on this topic.

Thank you Princess of Cups!  <3
