Magic Waffle Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Hi all! :D I'm starting this thread to discuss the use of tarot cards in spirit communication. I was interested in a thread on the Aeclectic Tarot forums about someone who used tarot cards in a Séance, and was wondering if anyone else here has used them this way? I know that everyone has there own beliefs about Tarot. Most people will probably say that there is some form of spirit that is being contacted or channeled during a reading (me included). But recently someone asked me if she could speak to a deceased family member, and this sort of put me off. I don't usually sit with my cards and ask Nan how she is... so to speak, could anyone help me with this one? Has anyone used there cards for direct conversations with spirits during their readings? and if so what was your method of interpretation?
DanielJUK Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 I haven't worked out in my own head how I get messages yet and feel uncomfortable currently at my tarot level to use them that way. But I think it is possible to get a message from dead people and loved ones. I would say make sure you have a protection ritual of some form whilst doing this or call on your spirit guides / animal guides to protect you. AT had a wonderful area in the spread index of spreads for this, have a browse through them sometime here I remember once on AT someone used a spread to work out the info of the ghosts in her house, it was fascinating. Let us know how you get on with it :)
Apollonia Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Hi all! :D I'm starting this thread to discuss the use of tarot cards in spirit communication. Has anyone used there cards for direct conversations with spirits during their readings? and if so what was your method of interpretation? I'm a medium and I sometimes use the cards when I want to get information from a person who has died. I ask a question and interpret the card as the answer. For example, if I ask how they died and get The Tower, I figure it was a stroke or heart attack. If the spirit is earthbound and I want to guide him or her to the other side, I'll ask why they didn't cross over when they died. If the card I get is The Devil, it was because they felt they had not led a good life and would go to hell. If is it the Ten of Cups or the Six of Cups or something like that, they didn't want to leave their family. If it is the Two of Swords or the Seven of Cups, they were confused, in a coma or had dementia and didn't see the light or know they were supposed to cross over. The more you do it, the better your "vocabulary" will become. But I will add a couple of things. The first is that of course you need to be very well protected to do this type of work, and your vibration needs to be high, because otherwise it's just like using a Ouija board, you are opening yourself up to all sorts of mischief and downright nastiness that might decide it doesn't want to leave when you put away your cards. And my personal feeling is that if you connect with the spirit of a person who is earthbound and didn't cross over, it is unkind to leave them stranded without helping them to cross. (Which is a whole other thread, because just shouting "Go to the light," isn't always going to do it.) Kind of like rowing a boat over to a person who's stranded on their roof in a flood, and after chatting with them for a few minutes you're like, "Okay, bye now," and you just leave them there.

Apollonia[/member], your post is very interesting, especially your relations of the tarot to their deaths. Brilliant! I admire mediums and their ability to speak with spirits. Your sentence: The more you do it, the better your "vocabulary" will become. is spot on. That thought is something to memorize and goes with all walks of divinities. Magic Waffle[/member], my son and I are the only ones left in my family. I don't feel them as spirits that have not moved on but I do think their energy is with me. I feel they stay in my tarot corner and oftentimes when I sit down to read I greet them. They are not spirits in the sense Apollonia deals with, it's just their energy, maybe memories but they are present in my life now, especially since I have developed in the tarot realm. I honestly don't feel my ancestors are telling my cards what to say. Aside from their supportive energy, they don't have anything to do with my cards. It is how my cards have connected with me. I am the messenger, the conduit between my cards and the querent. I don't read for myself btw. So I ask my cards the questions and they reply to the questions, I simply am there to tell the querent the answers my cards have given them. I do have the faith in my cards that if I asked them about my family members deaths, they would be honest but I just don't want to go that way with the tarot. I don't want to change the relationship I have with my cards.
Magic Waffle Posted June 1, 2018 Author Posted June 1, 2018 Apollonia[/member], thank you for sharing! It sounds to me like you are doing readings for ghosts :) very cool, keep up the good work! I also agree totally that it mightn't be the wisest thing to do this type of reading on the fly. When i was asked if i could communicate with the persons dead relative the first thought i had was 'do i really want to!?' i suppose i can get a little more spooked then most about calling random spirits up haha. I agree with Apollonia[/member] that there is a bit of responsibility weighed behind talking to spirits, id hate to offend or misinterpret them... . SaturnCeleste[/member] thank you also for sharing, i think the experiences i have had with spirits fall closer in line with yours. it's always very interesting hearing how other people use their cards! i don't know many people who don't read for themselves, is there any reason why you don't!? :) I'd just like to say that i find it beautiful the way you describe your relationship with your cards ; :D
Magic Waffle Posted June 1, 2018 Author Posted June 1, 2018 For anyone interested this is also one of the classic Aeclectic forum threads based on the same subject, helpful people have posted links to various other threads on the same subject! :) http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=102951

I know myself really well and I don't want to test my cards that way, I feel almost like I'm being deceitful with them. Now I might pull an oracle card once in a while but that's usually one every few months. I just don't use my cards that way I guess. I went into tarot reading to read others, not myself and from day 1 it's been that way. When I was learning I did universal readings, I'd toss my questions to the universe and read the reply. I'd make up questions others might ask me. It was also when I did this I learned that some of my decks and a real sense of humor!
Nivian Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 Cross Over...to WHERE...exactly...lol! P.S. The LIGHT isn't always good and the DARKNESS isn't always bad.
Audelia Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 I'm a medium and occasionally I will pull cards as a way to clarify the information I'm receiving if the connection with the spirit is a little weak. I believe that spirit is naturally attracted to the cards (and any other types of divination tools) because they see it as a means to communicate their messages. I also believe that using the cards will naturally help to 'wake up' your own abilities to connect with spirit. So don't be surprised when you suddenly don't need a deck of cards to get information ;)
