Libra46 Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 I'm new here so if this doesn't belong in this discussion group, please let me know where I should be posting it :) I know so many recommend the Rider-Waite deck for beginners but to be honest, they do not "speak" to me. I've had this deck in the past and cannot bond with it. Is there another "beginner" deck you could suggest? Thanks so much.

We have many discussions here about beginner decks. What are you looking for in a deck aside of wanting to bond with it? What are you drawn to? Animals? Vampires? A specific religion? There are so many things to connect with when it comes to decks! ^-^
Emilija Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 Welcome to TT&M. Take a look at Aeclectictarot.com. They have thousands of deck pictures sorted by category. You might find something that you like. Usually if you find something that you might like on there, you can use Google Images for more pictures of the deck.
Libra46 Posted June 30, 2018 Author Posted June 30, 2018 Thanks...I wasn't sure where my post belonged :) I'm mostly drawn to images like Gilded Tarot or Dreams of Gaia, etc. Are these appropriate for a beginner? What books would be helpful? I'm interested in tarot for myself only and Intuitive and Holistic Tarot. Does that help?

EmpyreanKnight Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 Welcome to the forums, Libra46! Both the Gilded and the Dreams of Gaia have extensive companion books (the former even has two). AFAIK the Gilded is regarded as a nice introductory deck that does not stray too far from the RWS system. This means that it won't be too difficult to learn most other decks later on since most follow standard RWS meanings. The Dreams of Gaia has a unique system of its own tho. In any case, if you truly feel an intense attraction to any of these two, you can just go with it as your beginner deck
Saturn Celeste Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Empyrean is correct. The Gilded tarot has a good companion book for beginners. It is even considered a beginner deck on Aeclectic. Here is the Amazon page for the US. https://www.amazon.com/Gilded-Tarot-Book-Deck-Set/dp/0738705209/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1530744720&sr=8-1&keywords=gilded+tarot
DanielJUK Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 Welcome Libra to here :) This is the Aeclectic database deck list filtered by recommended for beginners here One suggestion from me is the Beginners Tarot here. It's great for beginners with a simple design and it's based on Rider-Waite and Visconti-Sforza decks together, so softens the RWS elements. Some other non RWS decks - Gilded (which people suggest here), Hanson Roberts, Morgan Greer. I would go towards a deck with art or theme you like, what matches you! Another suggestion is the Wild Unknown which is a very different type of deck, it's minimalist with black and white and coloured artwork. But it is different from a traditional system and has no people in any of the cards but it's very in style at the moment and is gorgeous! Pick a deck which fits with you and what you like :)
