Grizabella Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 I think a lot of people probably already know me. I'm re-introducing myself anyway. I took some time away from Tarot and other cards because I was in need of getting out of a rut. In the months I've been away, I've been learning to watercolor. Normally I paint with oils and watercolor has been totally new to me. Finally I've reached a point with it that now I'm ready to resume my cards. Taking time away can be quite rejuvenating. I'm living in Washington now. I started out in Olympia but now I'm in Tacoma. Every time I move, I vow not to move again, but something always comes along to move me elsewhere. I guess I should just resign myself. lol Currently I'm working on painting a one-of-a-kind Lenormand deck with a fully beaded box to contain it. I'll post pictures when I'm done. First I have some beadwork I need to do. My youngest son has remarried and his new wife is a belly dancer. I'm beading some items for her costume. She's working on a line of costumes for belly dancers, too, with plans to go into business doing that. Well, that's about it. I'm glad to be here with people who love the cards like I do. When AT closed it was so sudden and a shock, but I'm sure this place will seem like home, too, in time.
DDwarks Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 Hi Grizabella and lovely to see you here <3 I know just what you mean. Sometimes you just need to step away from the same old to kind of regenerate. Its like finding yourself again or shedding your old skin. AT closing (or the way it closed) was a big shock indeed. I'll admit to feeling a little vulnerable myself since then. I'm happier now that I know where to find you though ;D
DanielJUK Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 hello Dear Friend, it's great to see you here <3 <3 <3 Glad your move went okay and can't wait for your Lenormand!
~D~ Posted July 15, 2018 Posted July 15, 2018 Hey Hi Grizabella, I for sure remember you from AT... Super glad to see you here... You are moving closer to my part of the world bit by bit ;)
Grizabella Posted July 15, 2018 Author Posted July 15, 2018 Thank you so much. I've missed everyone but I'm just as refreshed as I can be and ready to move forward. Here's one of the things I've done while rejuvenating. I made this journal for one of my daughter-in-laws for Christmas. I've almost finished one for my great-grandson that's about half that size so it's easier for him to handle. His will have a monkey on it in beadwork. My watercolor efforts are finally getting a little more improved. Watercoloris are difficult to get the hang of and for awhile I thought I'd never succeed. I'm working on a Lenormand and beaded box. Next after that a Kipper and box and then last of all, I'll go for a Tarot and box. I'm very interested in the Urban Sketching movement. It started right here in Tacoma many years ago I found to my surprise. I find I enjoy simple things that in years gone by would never have entered my mind. For Christmas my daughter's friend gave me a pretty dark red walker with a seat on it. And then my son in Oregon sent me a little netbook when my big laptop failed and it's the same color as my walker. Now, that's king of a silly thing to be excited about, but I'm just very happy about the serendipity of the whole thing. I tried but failed to post a photo but it isn't something I can figure out. When I do, I'll post some of my watercolors and beaded journals, etc.
Grizabella Posted July 16, 2018 Author Posted July 16, 2018 OK maybe I've figured out how to post a photo now. Let's see if I can do it. This is the journal I made for my DIL for Christmas. My daughter took the picture upside down, so I reversed it. The tab magnetic closure goes on the other side, really.
Grizabella Posted July 16, 2018 Author Posted July 16, 2018 Shoot---maybe I've got it upside down. At any rate, I made it and the beads are size 13 Charlottes so they have a little bit of a classy sparkle. My DIL cried when she opened the package at Christmas and she's not normally one to show her emotions that much, so I guess I did well in choosing to do it for her. :)
PathWalker Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 Good to see you again Griz, many blessings PathWalker
Grizabella Posted July 16, 2018 Author Posted July 16, 2018 Thank you again for the warm welcomes! <3 I'm really glad to be back among my Tarot family again. As usual, being away on a little break from the cards always rejuvenates me. I've been learning to use watercolors as I've said. It's been a challenge because I've never used that medium before. It's taken me almost a year to get comfortable and reasonably good at it. Now I've started making a Lenormand deck using watercolors. Not for publication, though.
Esk Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 Hello and welcome Grizabella! I'm happy to see you here and have some news. I've always appreciated your kindness and your wise contributions on AT :)
KatMoon Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 Hi!!! I have so missed you!! Was worried about you there for a while, so I am so happy to see you over here.
BlueDragonfly Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 Grizabella, you are a true Gypsy, maybe just not moving around as often/quickly. It's good to see you here! I too love watercolor painting, but haven't devoted the time I need to be any good. :D And of course I love your beadwork!
Apollonia Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 Hi Griz! I definitely remember you from AT, I used to like your posts a lot! Welcome! Hugs, Apollonia
Grizabella Posted July 18, 2018 Author Posted July 18, 2018 Thank you everyone! It's so good to see people I know and ones I can get acquainted with more recently. Deeisme, where are you located? Are you possibly in Canada? No need to worry about me, because I always seem to end up on my feet no matter what throws me off them, whether physically or emotionally. I now have a shiny, beautiful deep red walker, a shiny deep red netbook, and a shiny deep red power chair----I didn't pick any of them. They picked me. I enjoyed the serendipity of that as it unfolded. I love red, especially deep red. Yes, a Gypsy I am, I think. When I was little, my step-father's job took us to many different places. That wasn't in my control, of course. Then as an adult, my life circumstances kept moving me all around. I've often envied people whose lives remain in one place permanently. Usually, up until I became a widow, the moves weren't a matter of my own choosing. After I became a widow, I also moved around by necessity mostly. What I needed to do for the girls I was raising mostly motivated that. And in my last move or two, necessity and unforeseen circumstances were all at play too. Now I'm headed south again, back to Oregon and a whole overflowing "lap-full" of great-grandchildren I haven't actually been able to cuddle yet.
DanielJUK Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 oh Dear Griz, you are always a worry to everyone in the community! :-* So it's always nice to see you around and glad you are doing good <3 <3 <3
Hemera Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 So nice to see you here Grizabella! I remember you (and so many of you other guys!) so well from AT. I must admit still haven't really recovered from the shock of AT closing so suddenly. But seeing so many familiar faces from AT sure helps. Welcome <3
Thoughtful Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 Hi Grizabella its great to see you and some other ex-ATers here. l was devastated when AT closed it was most definitely my Tower moment, must admit l shed a tear or two. It came so out of the blue. Enjoy your great-grandchildren when you see them ;D
Grizabella Posted October 19, 2018 Author Posted October 19, 2018 I've been learning watercolor painting for 13 months now and finally I'm able to actually turn out paintings that are presentable. It's been quite a difficult medium for me. I joined Wet Canvas and did a miniature painting exchange a couple months ago and I found that by doing the tiny paintings, I didn't stall around wondering what to paint, I just painted every day. That was good practice. Now I've joined a Christmas card exchange there where the paintings can't be larger than 5x7. I have 6x9 cotton paper stocked up so I'm going to paint on half sheets of that, meaning my cards will be 3x4.5 inches. The miniatures were 2x3.5 inches so for the Christmas cards I have a little more leeway, although very little .

Grizabella Posted October 19, 2018 Author Posted October 19, 2018 I don't mind sharing some. I'll have to take some photos of them first, though. My camera battery died and I didn't find my spare battery and charger till just now. Where I'm living now is heaven for doing plen aire painting. It's getting nippy in the mountains at night now so I won't be out doing much plen aire till the good summer weather comes again, but I still have a great view out my windows.

DarkElectric Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 Hi! I remember you from AT, we passed in the night a couple of times, in threads and suchlike. We never offficially met, as I recall, but I always liked what you had to say, and respected your insight. So, Well Met! (Now it's official.)
