Pixie Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 I hope this is the right place to post! Does anyone have any suggestions for resources or advice on using Tarot and Oracle decks together? I am curious to start using the two together for a little more insight, however, I have had a hard time thinking of the how. I was thinking perhaps doing a spread with Tarot and using Oracle cards as a clarifier of sorts? Apart from that, I am drawing a blank as to how to use them together.
EmpyreanKnight Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 I found this detailed article from Spiral Nature Magazine quite helpful. The following videos by , , and provide sample readings that may give you an idea of how combination readings can be done. I hope that these would help you get started.
TheFeeLion Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 I quite like using the two together. My favourite combo at the moment is Froud’s Faeries Oracle with the Thoth. Usually I’ll do the main part of the reading with Thoth then ask the Faeries if they have anything to add. I like to be quite intuitive with it all so sometimes I’ll do the bulk with the Faeries instead. I work with jumpers though, I find they tend to be the cards that really have something to say. I’ll just keep shuffling until no more fall out (unless it’s a huge bunch then I’ll tell my cards off and put the bunch back lol), then start shuffling the other deck to see if I get any more. I just try and go with the flow. If you like to use spreads you could try doing the spread with your main deck and once that’s payed out pick up your second one and just ask what that deck has to say. You could use it as a little bit of extra wisdom or as a summary or as something the sitter hasn’t thought of. You could always try pulling a card from the top of the second deck as well as one from the bottom. These would be like a birds eye view and a worms eye view...

I love videos on Tarot and I really enjoy Truth In Story's videos in particular, so I will definitely be checking out all the links. Thank you so much! I quite like using the two together. Every time I see your username it makes me happy because of it. That deck was my first Divination "love" and I have always felt it is so, so special a deck. I even remember doing the very first exercises from the book but honestly it has been so long I should probably re-read the entire book again and see how I've changed! I just wish I still had my original journal I used with that deck... Anywho, your idea for working with the Faeries while doing a Tarot reading by asking their thoughts is amazing, I will definitely be trying that! I haven't really worked with jumpers much but I like your idea for them so I may have to try it. It may even help me decide if working with jumpers is something that works for me, I am such a messy shuffler that I generally haven't paid much mind to jumpers because I figure it's generally my clumsiness causing them to jump out.
ThreeCircleTarot Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 I don't have any resources, but my advice is to find an oracle deck you like and go for it! I'm a free-for-all type; I'll even use different tarot decks in a reading if I feel like it.
Tuteniaset Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 Hello there! I pretty much only do readings with an oracle and tarot combination method. I'll have certain decks that just feel right to me, their energies click and their messages work well together. For a general reading, I will usually only use 1 oracle card and then surround the oracle card with tarot cards. The oracle card serves as a general message or overall message and the tarot cards are the details. Sometimes, I'll draw 3 or 4 oracle cards and have corresponding tarot cards to each one... but that's for a much more detailed reading with many different sides of the story. There's many ways to utilize both decks together as a cohesive unit. I'd recommend trying different combinations until you find one way that feels right to you. Not all of my oracle decks play nice with all of my tarot decks, only certain ones feel right. Have fun!
DanielJUK Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 There are not that many resources as most books and deck books are about just that deck or the one system! My advice would be to compare and contrast, I mostly use them together where you have a tarot card and an oracle card (or two different mediums of some form), how does the artwork / keywords / book meanings work together to reinforce the message and how do they differ in totally different meanings. I normally find they work together for a really interesting message. Some people use them almost like two different readings on top of each other and interpret them separately. Some people have an oracle card and tarot in different positions and then you do just interpret them individually. I like to mix them up though, you get great readings with them in combination. But this is a little experimental and you have to work out what works best for you and how to interpret them in the best way for your method :)
