Confusing Advice

I'm finding the advice the cards give sometimes confusing/contradicting and I sometimes feel like they tell me things I'm expecting to hear in the moment that isn't necessarily the right answer.

I did a reading on if I should let go of this person I've liked for a while and how to. I thought they were with someone else so I thought it was for the best. I got 7 of cups, 8 of cups, and six of swords. I took that to mean that I need to stop holding onto a fantasy that's not going to come true and move on/ walk away from the situation. A few weeks later I went for drinks with them and found out they are in fact single so I considered telling them I liked them and did another reading for advice/action to take. I got Page of Cups, The Emperor, and Eight of Cups (again!). I took this as meaning I need to express how I felt about them, take control of the situation and instead of letting them go bring an end to the current situation of not knowing. If the first reading was right surely it would be pointless telling them I like them?

This kind of goes into discussions of fate and how divination works, but to me it seems like the situation changed at the cards reflected the new path you’re on. Since it has been a while and you asked the cards after something changed, I would say that the new reading is “correct” and the old reading is “outdated”.

There could be another possibility that both of the readings are still correct. If you still haven’t moved on, asking this person out and getting told “no” would bring closure so you could finally move on. Hopefully that isn’t the case, but sometimes life goes that way.

Hope this helps! Best of luck

I don't think the cards are particularly different, even though your reading is. I'm also not going to get into the "why might it be different" discussion, as I don't think it is.

In both cases you got 8 of Cups (walk away). So no difference there. Both the Emperor and 7 of cups are cards of restriction. There's a lot of confusing choices in seven of cups, and you need to take control of what you want. This isn't the "either or" type of choice of a two. What the card is saying is you can't have it all. You need to focus. What else is out there that you'll be missing if you date this guy? It's your choice.

The Emperor says the same thing in a more general sense. The Empress is about fecundity and abundance. The Emperor is about restriction and control.

Six of swords is the need for perspective. Try to look at this objectively. Get yourself some distance. Which as you've had a few weeks to think about it, maybe you have.

Page of Cups. Is it saying he'll be too immature for you (or the other way around - sorry I don't know either of you)?  I think if you ask yourself what you were supposed to see by looking at him objectively (perhaps chatting with mutual friends who know him better or just getting someone else's opinion), you might find out what the Page card is all about.

My gut feel is (and I know I'm stretching) that there's someone else the tarot thinks is more suitable and you'll miss out if you go with this guy.

Thank you for your reply Lantana! And I was wondering this too as by being rejected it would make it much easier for me to move on and accept the truth.

Thank you for your reply Ratty! This is an interesting take on the cards and I never would have seen it that way but I think you could be right. I believe that if I was in a relationship with him I would always be wondering if I liked him more than he liked me and would not have felt secure. I'm sure there is another guy out there somewhere that would make me feel a lot more loved - I just haven't met him yet and I need to walk away from this guy first.
