HOLMES Posted July 27, 2018 Posted July 27, 2018 it happens to everyone ,, you are in a middle of a great reading,, then all the sudden KAPOW blank mind , it seems like everything you ever known about the tarot has left your brain, ! there is the old (new to some who never heard of this i guess) techique of using numerology to correspond cards with other cards,, mary k greer eve wrote a book on called tarot contellations . you take your double digits numbers and add them. 15 becomes 6 ! so the devil becomes the lovers , and everything moves by the hermit card in the tarot consellations. i was thinking of that further and discerned if you can add the numbers then you must be able to subtract the numbers.. hence 5 plus 1 , becomes 5 minus 1 to make 4 , and you have 11 .. and that systems works every card .. 11 becomes 0. 12 becomes 1. , 13 becomes 2. even talking about that on atf a bit,, and had a freind at the time , kazz or kaz i forget which explore the system and realizng it works for them. then i figured if 9 and 11 works for every card,, there must be a 10 . and that was the jewel. so you take your 15 right.. 15 minus 9 becomes 6, 15 minus 10 becomes 5. 15 minus 11 becomes 4 . so the devil with its two figures deals with love,, the devil deals with the heirophant, and we all knew the evils of the crusade,, the residential schools , it isnt' to say all priests are bad, it just points to the facts that spiritual leaders are human too and perhaps preach to much hellfire.. and the emperor being a hiddne charactersistic of the devil shows the teaching of the emperor of the star wars,, the ego filled emeperor the emerpor who doenst'fight his dark side but embraces it by having gladiator games every day and breaking the roman empire. now logic says if there is that much meaning in one card.. then it must flow the other way.. hence lets take the lovers.. lovers plus hermit or nine becomes 15 , lovers plus wheel of fortune, aka 10 becomes tower,, and lovers plus justice or 11 becomes the star. so the lovers has the teachings of the devil, , the tower how many couples have to rebuidl their lives after an cheating affair, or loss of a love one,, or reconnect after being seperated for a while. and how many couples must look to the star for their higher power ? then i read the book keywords of the tarot by sylvia abahram and she talks about how cards like sixes have the lover in them , and 7s is the chariots manifested in the respective elemental world ,, so yes folks for those new to the system the system can be applied to any of the minor cards .. 7 of cups becomes chariot manifested in the emotiional world,, and by extenstion star, moon, and tower , and if it was reversed,, 7 of cups reversed, the chariot is reversed, and by extension star reversed, moon reversed and tower reversed. 4 of swords , emperor manifested in mental world, death, temperance and devil manifested .. reversed 4 of swrods is emperor reversed, death reversed, temperance reversed and devil reversed.. and putting it all together you can might see more reasons why a card is reversed.. and remember i said all minor cards.. it is generally assumed the pages knights queen and kings are in order yes ? and they come after in most tarot books the number ten in the minor suits ? by order of local custom i assign the following numbers . pages are 11, knights are 12, queens are 13, and kings are 14. by that defination pages are justice cards (strenght card if you use thoth) , with the following connection fool , magicans, and high priestress, judgement 20, world card 21. no wonder our youths are under so much pressure as they grow up having to deal with these. knights are hanged men , 12 with the following connection 1magican, high priestress, and emperess , world . the knights as they reach elderhood still deal with magican energy, and high priestress but also the emperess and the world card,, see they deal more with the land,, and living the world. queens are 13 death cards,, with the following connection highpriestress, emperess and emperor,, here they are no looking at the world card, or judgement but are more focused the actual power of the emperess and emperor many times the ladies had the power behidn the scenes. one thing that i argued with myself about is the mothers are the birthers wouldn't the father be the killers if the baby wasnt' healthy in the very old days ,, where the child would get left behind.. but then you consider that many woman died in child birth,, and many times in the older days where medicine and health wasn't so strong, the babies would high mortality right.. so death figures more with woman then the men. temperance being the king now,, deals with the following emperess, emperor, and hierogphant.. it is hard to think of the temperance dealing with kings as manly men tend at least in myth to be more one sided then balanced. the temperance is their main teaching to balance out themselves ,, and to deal with their hieorphant. they have to decide for themselves what laws they teach their children, what beleifs they beleif in,, so i do one card readings now and then and use the system to stay in shape.. i find though that it helps me to understand the tarot better.. but when i get stuck now, i start to reground myself and try to use inuition when looking at the cards. oh i forgot to mentio when i used to read the tarot for years 3 or 4 i would just read the title and then start from there,, it wasn't until later on i really started to look at the symbols on the card.. (i am not a scholarly person having trouble with english having not graduated high school, so i knew i would never be able to discuss history and deep symbolism so i just skipped it ehhe ) .. and try to flow from the images on the cards .. i try to do that when i get stuck for i figure there must be something that is outside my comfort zone that i should look at .. i now describe the card a lot when i read here on the forum.. and in live readings. i started to read tarot and astrology,, i put it aside for now,, as i find i have to really think about concepts.. but eventually well one can use astrology if they are well versed to undrstand a tarot,, the minors corespond to some planets and even of the year by gd associations if they have a good memory. i was trying to study the rulerships of astrology and major tarot,, it is hard though for me alas. elizabeth hazel wrote a book on elemental dignities, that is what meant by ill dignifed (lol i thought ill dignified meant reversed eheh) is two cards being next to each other.. i guess it is much perhaps lik the combos of the lenny . hmm i have to think of that.. anyhow what do you use or do when you get stuck on a card, in a reading. ?
ToadieOdie Posted July 27, 2018 Posted July 27, 2018 I knew I was touching on to something when I starting playing around with the numbers and keywords the other day with an experimental exercise - just trying to understand the numbers, which is a new concept for me in tarot. But I was struggling with how to address the court cards: are they numbered 11-14 or 1-4? The way you have it explained suggests they are both but I don't think that's what you mean here.
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that flat comes up blank. I do fairly small readings and if I draw a blank I go to my card blog and do a search for that card. I've used tons of different decks over the years, each card 25 or more times and after reading a few posts it seems to oil my mind. If I haven't said Holmes, I'm very glad to see you posting here!
Arch Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 I use Jungian/Freudian concepts to fill in any blanks I get. Thinking, feeling, sensing, intuition. Ego, Id, Superego. Sadism/Masochism Voyeurism/Exhibitionism Complexes (Oepidpus, power, sex, inferiority) Archetypes (Anima, animus, mother, father, magician, trickster, lover, warrior) In some ways me doing the tarot is more like a Psychoanalytic session rather than a tarot reading at times. Drawing a blank is very difficult for me, though I remember doing it a lot when I started out. So yeah having a interest in symbolism in general is my "tech" I guess. Great work on the numbers btw, didn't know that. ^-^
EmpyreanKnight Posted August 6, 2018 Posted August 6, 2018 Whenever I get stuck on a certain card, I just look at the other cards in the spread, see the general story that it tells, and try to determine how it fits in the entire scheme. It's strange, but I find that when I use larger spreads I have an easier time doing this, tho I use them rather sparingly. If it's a solitary card, I just try to remember what it means the most to me among its diverse meanings and that's it. If this still fails, I just conjure the corresponding image in either the Thoth or the RWS, decks which I'm intimately familiar with. I do like the numerological prompts that you use, Holmes. This reminds me that I really must revisit and study more deeply the Kabbalistic meanings of the cards.
