I talk a lot to my decks when I perform readings or any other exercise with them, which I think qualifies as a valid quirk. I tell them what we're gonna read about, how the spread works, how many cards and that I want the deck to let me know when the cards for the reading are ready in the proper sequence as I usually pull from the top. The feeling of readiness is usually a solid feeling in the gut! I'm glad I live alone because I'm sure it would seem really weird if anyone caught me doing it ^-^

I mainly perform only one reading at a time, so whenever I finish one I almost always re-arrange the cards in their original sequence. While I'm doing this, I always take note of:

1. The very last major I pick up, which serves as sort of an indicator of the auspiciousness of the situation I was reading about

2. Which suit fills up first - if it's Wands I'd have to pay attention to my projects, career,  and businesses, Cups to my relationships and spiritual practices, Swords to current/impending concerns, and Pentacles to my finances and health.

3. The very first Court suit that gets completed. Swords mean some possible problems in the horizon, Cups and Wands are neutral - things would go in accordance to the effort I expend on them, while Pentacles are very positive.

This is just a personal system I spontaneously developed on my own. I'd say it's rather accurate tho.

I do something similar. After a reading, I deal the remaining cards into five piles (the majors and the four suits) starting from the bottom of the deck. When I'm done, I see which cards have ended up on top of the piles, for a little extra insight. I also like to shuffle the deck 17 times (for the Star), in hopes of giving the reading a positive spin. (I know that not every spread will have a positive outcome, but a little hope never hurts).
