EmpyreanKnight Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 Do you use multiple decks in a single reading. How often do you do this, and for what types of readings? Do you have go-to spreads that you use for these combos? What deck combinations do you prefer? Novices are understandably reluctant to do this, but some pros like to include a few oracle cards in their Tarot readings. Some think that this gives some depth to their interpretations, while others think that it only distracts from the main message that your guides, deepest self, etc wish to tell you. They do look so good on a spread tho, especially if the aesthetics of the decks match.
EmpyreanKnight Posted August 10, 2018 Author Posted August 10, 2018 I do like using multiple decks but only sparingly. When I feel like the occasion warrants it like in the last Sacred Days of Yule group reading, I combine a Tarot deck and a matching oracle. I deployed the cards one-to-one there tho, which is rather rare for me. To get the general tenor of a reading, instead of drawing a base/foundation card from the same deck, on some occasions I pull a single or a triad of cards from a fitting oracle. I've had very good results with these combos. I've never combined two Tarot decks yet, tho that will soon change since I'm studying one that suggests spreads that use shadows/mirrors in the same position. I think it would be very interesting to explore those. :)
Marisa Kirisame Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 Replacing the draws with the cards from another deck is a viable option, but if you wish to mix things up even more, the specific spreads for comboing aren't common, so you'd have to use your intuition and spiritual ability to consolidate one yourself every time you'd want to try a new combo. It is confusing, in a way, to read, because #manycards, but it does provide clarifying information in a similar way that astrology or any different practice would do. It is different from drawing the clarification cards from the same deck, because it enriches your "alphabet" of symbols. Myself, I only combined RWS with Lenormand in a reading (hard to get all those flashy decks here bar international purchases T_T), and it was a great experience; though a bit overkill for most situations, in my opinion. RWS was a main deck while Lenormand was a supporting one.
Thoughtful Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 l have used oracle cards after a tarot reading. Usually only one or two and l found they rounded a reading off nicely. Like dessert after dinner :) Don't know why but l stopped doing this a while back, but possibly because the tarot gives such a full reading l didn't want to give my sitters indigestion :))
EmpyreanKnight Posted August 10, 2018 Author Posted August 10, 2018 Your metaphors made me lol, Thoughtful. :))
Raggydoll Posted August 10, 2018 Posted August 10, 2018 I do this if there is a special occasion or if I just want to jazz things up. I have shared a reading using three different Oracle decks in a previous thread, in case anyone wants to see what that kind of reading might look like : https://www.thetarotforum.com/group-readings/flower-moon-lunar-group-reading-for-may-2018-2515/msg30115/#msg30115
