Guest snobchickenleg Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 I am just wondering how does reversed 4 of swords appear - negative or positive? I always see it as positive, but then realized, it depends on the situation it appeared.
Ratty Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 The more I get into tarot, the less I think in terms of cards being positive or negative, except in context. All the cards have many meanings. Reversal can mean hollowness, lessened effects and it can mean negative. So an armed truce rather than peace; stagnation rather than rest; the need for rededication after battles lost rather than the need to plan for battles to come, etc. Is the eye of a hurricane positive or negative? In some spreads I've been looking at reversals (or ill-dignities) as something for the querent to work on. I'm finding that in Celtic Cross, these cards tell me where the blockages and misdirected energies lie. Other, upright cards help with solutions. Hope that helps.
alpenglow Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 It does depend. My first thought of 4 of Swords rx, without any context, is "stagnation." Typically that has negative connotations, and I think it's typically unpleasant to experience, but good can come out of it; being stuck in a rut can lead to feelings of ennui and purposelessness but it can also give you motivation to find something new, break out of patterns, learn new habits, etc.
ascetic Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 4 of swords rx can be a positive card when a situation has been stagnant for a long time. This card in this case indicates that a time has come to act on it. It can be a negative card when you are impulsive to act on a situation and more contemplation is required. So it depends on the context of what the situation is.
