Nanook Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Hi - I’ve been looking at Biddy Tarot’s Mastering the Cards Meaning classes. Does anyone have an opinion on whether it’s worth the cost? I’ve recently picked up Tarot again after a very long break and feel it might help me refresh my knowledge. Thanks in advance xoxoxo
HOLMES Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 I have thought about it,, you don't need the course,, instead what you need to get is,, The Complete Book of Tarot Reversals,, use 2 or 3 decks and constrast 2 to 3 cards a night , first reversed then upright. as the course is 7 weeks,, that is 49 days.. in 49 days you could do a 1.5 card a day yourself but with 2 to 3 cards with the book you can do it in that time. the contrast and compare,, is a way to harmonize the images, get the meanings in your head,, and perhaps reorangize them in your head.. aka after looking at lovers you may name it partners, self love, who knows. yo could even toss in..understanding the court cards,, for the extra court cards section. myself i would suggest a magican , ace of cups, ace of wands, ace of swords, ace of pentacles reversed,, then upright. approach that is 5 cards a day but you only have to do that the first 10 days.. .. that will get you through 50 cards and you will see it differntly.
Ratty Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 What does $300-$340 mean to you? What else would you do with the money? If you spend cash on a course it usually means you'll take the time out to put the effort in. You have an excuse you've given to yourself - I've spent all this money, and the course is happening now, so I'd better do it now. Biddy talks about roughly 3 hours a week, (so maybe half an hour a day). If you can do that without spending the money, if you can block out the time to spend with your deck, and to spend time here or just with a couple of books, perhaps you don't need the course. If you did it yourself you'd have to spend longer as the course syllabus wouldn't be pre-digested, so you'd have to spend time deciding what and how to learn. You know yourself better than anyone. Do you need the discipline and motivation a formal course brings, or are you enough of a self-starter to put the time in without it?
DanielJUK Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 It's up to you Nanook, if you think it would be worthwhile for you. Personally I wouldn't pay for a course because I think you can get all the lessons online already. What HOLMES said! I would buy some tarot "gold" reference books, maybe from authors like Mary Greer, Rachel Pollack and many others. Even Biddy's first ebook called the ultimate guide to tarot card meanings is a worthwhile buy (it really helped me learning!) and then do it for yourself! Practice and ask questions on the forum here, sign up to the mentorship scheme as a student and someone will help you on your way, that is free! Do Joan Bunning's Learn Tarot course, it's free online (or you can buy it as a book or ebook and support her but still the actual course is free). The course site is here. You do the lesson, for example read lesson 1 and then do exercise 1 after it and do it step by step like that. If you feel Biddy's course would really help you, do it but there are so many free resources or cheaper resources online to learn, I don't think you need it to master the cards :)
Nanook Posted August 31, 2018 Author Posted August 31, 2018 Thank you, Holmes, Ratty, & DanielJUK. You’ve helped me a great deal. I see several free courses online and have lots of books, as I’ve been collecting tarot for a while. Joan Bunting’s course looks like a fit - so here I go! Much love and gratitude to you all <3 <3 <3
Arabella Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 I have Joan Bunning's book and also use the online resource. Great to work through. I also looked at the Biddy Tarot course but too expensive for me. With some great websites offering pretty much the same as Biddy, but free, I've learnt a lot. And right here in this forum I've found all that I need. The mentoring space is wonderful with the experience and advise available, so I'd highly recommend it.
Mabel Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Little Red Tarot has a class that is not as expensive. I hope to take it soon. I hear it is being updated soon. I do not know if that means the price will be going up or not. I know she is archiving her blog, but she said the courses will be updated and kept running. Also, since I have not taken them, I am not sure if they are what you are looking for in a class. Sent from my SM-S727VL using Tapatalk
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Dusty someone had online classes connected to his book that folk were raving about a year or so ago. I'm an info junkie so read every single thing I could lay my hands on. (took what I wanted left the rest) In addition I went through Joan Bunnings class. A week or so after I started it I ran across a printed copy on ebay, which was quite helpful. That class being offered free on a book store site is what brought me to tarot. I was looking for something meaty to chew on :)
Nanook Posted September 1, 2018 Author Posted September 1, 2018 Little Red Tarot is one of my favorite sites, so I’m definitely going to check out that course, too. Thank you everyone! Love to all <3
DanielJUK Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 oh I love Little Red Tarot and Biddy too <3 There is nothing wrong with signing up to tarot courses at all but I think it's important to really research it. There is so much stuff online for free and this forum and the archive at AT and ebooks and books. They always seem quite a cost but the lessons might really suit someone to learn! Also what do you get at the end of it? is there a certificate, can you access the content for months or years afterwards? just some things to look for! We have had many debates here already about tarot certification but doing a course to just get a certificate of being endorsed is probably not a good idea, buy it to learn! I have seen online that people paid a lot of money for Angel Reader certification by Doreen Virtue and now a lot of those readers have a worthless certification after she has turned her back on everything. There are a lot of angry ex students from her courses out there now! I think the key to signing up to the courses is to make an informed decision, is it worth it? does it offer something that will help you that is not offered for free online? do you get something at the end of it? Can you afford the prices? Good luck with it Nanook <3
Mabel Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 DanielJUK, These are very good points to consider. Thank you for sharing. Sent from my SM-S727VL using Tapatalk

Thank you, DanielJUK - all good points. I do not care about certification, I just want to learn. And now I have some great ways to do that!
moonbeans.and.sweetdreams Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 Hi Nanook, I have not enrolled in Biddy's Tarot course, and am just a beginner, but if you are looking for a free class, Dusty White (whom I think AJ-ish may have been referring to) has one (Google House of White) and Vivien Ní Dhuinn has one called Truly Teach Me Tarot. Dusty's class is mostly comprised of video lessons via his website and you can also supplement his free class with his free podcasts and YouTube videos. Vivien's class is completely textual and she delved into YouTube briefly this year, but there are currently only 4 videos on her channel. They are both very different personality wise. Vivien has a ton of information on card meanings and comes across as someone who definitely loves to write. She strikes me as being more traditional-intuitive about tarot. Dusty is super confident and cracks me up, and he strikes me as having a much more laid back approach. Anyway, wishing you the best of luck dusting off your skills! :)
~D~ Posted September 15, 2018 Posted September 15, 2018 How about Kelly Anne Maddox-I believe she has a whole course on line free... here is part of it:
Catspur Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 There are a ton of free resources out there. Dusty White has a bunch of free material online and if you can tolerate how full of digressions and distractions he is, they're fantastic. (I give them a D for presentation but an A+ for content). Overall, I think his philosophy of tarot is in line with a lot of stuff I spent years stumbling towards. I also think his card definitions in "Easiest Way to Learn Tarot Ever" are very clear and on-point. So often my eyes start to glaze over when I read books trying to explain what the cards mean, but his aren't like that. He's got a ton of podcast episodes out there, too, which are usually a bit more focused, and can help you focus in on a specific topic.
