I'm Tea.  I've only just begun my tarot journey but it already feels amazing and 'right'.  (I go by Tea in other areas of the internet as well so I didn't choose my username based on the site name, just to be clear.)  :)

I read a lovely article on the CBC about Tarot and the art of the cards and found it spoke to me on so many levels.  As an artist I love the idea of coming up with my own designs for the cards.  But the description of tarot as a therapeutic practice for oneself and others was what resonated with me most.

The next day I was shopping with my daughter for a worry necklace for her to wear for the new school year and on a whim asked the person helping us if they had tarot cards.  The only kind they carried was The Golden Tarot by Mary Packard, a Visconti-Sforza deck, but I am so thrilled it's the first deck I bought.  I dove into getting to know it better and got the sense that this was not to be my learning deck, if you know what I mean.  It's lovely and has an elegant, historic, reserved feel to it that tells me I will be using it for 'serious' sessions.  The cards are very large and I wanted something smaller that would feel good in my hands and travel well.

My second deck is the Tarot Basics deck by Evelin Burger and Johannes Fiebig.  It feels much more portable and casual and everyday to me.  I'm excited to take it everywhere with me.  It took me a long time to find it on the bookshelf among the many, many kinds that were there, but as soon as I picked it up and looked over the packaging I had the sense it was what I needed.  When I got it home and started getting to know it I knew it was exactly right for me now.

That's my little introduction.  I'm so excited to learn and grow!

Welcome to the forum Tea! We're very glad to have you  ;D

I'm sure you'll find lots of helpful and kind people on this forum - I always love to see people progress and gain more confidence in their craft. I don't have either of the decks you have, as I use angel cards, so I can't advise about how best to use them, but I'm sure someone will come along soon who can give you some tips!  :)

Hi, Tea.

I nearly got the Sforza as my first deck too, but eventually I decided on the standard Rider Waite. I await a copy of Visconti-Modrone instead. I love those 15th century decks, but you are right, learning from them would be tough.

Welcome to the forum. I'm sure that no matter which kind of deck you are drawn to (or even draw), I'm sure you will find help and support here.

Ohhhhh how exciting!  Tarot is an amazing journey, and this community will help you.  We all remember how it was when we started out, and we all enjoy going back to that time and offering up the help we wish we could have gotten at the time LOL.

Thank you, Jewel!  I'm keeping mostly to writing my journal and just lurking other threads at the moment since I don't have a lot of knowledge or advice to impart but I am sure as my confidence grows so will my participation.  I'm having a really good time learning.
