So today my husband had probation and then court. I drew a card for the outcome of probation and I received the 5 of air which is called Conflict and Defeat. Probation was a breeze...no problems at all. Then I drew a card for the outcome of court and I received the 7 major called Triumph or the Chariot. Court did not go well. My husband lost his license for another year. The cards should have been opposite. I'm using John Holland's Psychic Tarot. I'm starting to think the cards don't work afterall. I am disappointed. What went wrong?

May be you are too close to the situation to read on it.

Not too keen on John Holland`s Psychic Tarot - I think it is not the best for me personally. I know I have it somewhere, but just something about it never worked or clicked so I do not touch it.

Must save that to giveaway actually as maybe it will work great with someone else.

With CHARIOT - I'd be inclined to see why you'd think a favorable outcome.

So, that is why Im wondering if you are too close to the subject perhaps to be objective enough,. Are your own biases/hopes coming through your readings because you are too connected to the situation.

Hello Nivian. I had to google this deck, and I think the Triumph/Chariot card looks more like someone going into battle and preparing to fight, than someone who is already triumphant.

I also agree with DownUnderNZer - you could be getting your wishes and biases, being too close to the situation.

And then there is also the fact that this is not exactly a 100% fail proof science. Things can change. We can be wrong.

I'm hoping it'll sort itself out for you.

This. I have found that hopes and fears can nestle themselves into readings, particularly readings done for oneself of done by an empath that is picking up the querents energies.

Yes I'm an empath like most of us on here I believe. My husband was not at all worried about probation but was deathly worried about court. I suspose I was picking up on that. I have put those cards away. I did like them because it's the first deck I could read intuitively. thanks guys

Nivian, the thing about the Chariot that took me a long time to understand is it is quite often shown unmoving. Or without forward progress because the propulsion is in opposite directions.

Things moved quickly in court though and in a bad direction. Maybe the chariot would have been reversed if I had done reversals meaning obstacles with an automobile or transport system...such as losing the license for a year.

This!

The chariot has been popping in my readings lately and I've started to realize that it may actually signify lack of movement. In the Rider Waite deck, the sphinx look to be laying down - passive.

His car was wrecked in the dui and we were going to fix it when he was susposed to get his license back in August. No reason to fix the car now. He wont be going anywhere in it. I think the Chariot means no progress forward or lack of movement too. I always thought it was the opposite.

Hello guys,

I agree with ideas above. I am not able to see myself straightly in a spread, nor my closest  - BF, parents and people who are too close to me and their decision could have an effect on myself.

I think to do such spreads is quite tricky, because we do not see things as we should. We always want to see only good for our closest that is reason why we should ask someone else for reading, who has an emotional distance.

I rarely, if ever, read for myself now for that very reason.

Also, I find that one-card readings can be too general, or too simplistic. There can be no nuance in a one-card reading.

The Chariot is a trump, and as such does not apply to the nitty-gritty of a situation, IMHO, but rather to the greater pattern of it. So, again, to have it signify only triumph or defeat is way too simplistic.

Actually, never mind. The Psychic Tarot is a 65-card oracle deck, not a true Tarot deck as we understand it. So we can't really apply Tarot meanings to it.
