Llewellyn Releases Old Faves in New Hard Box Sets

Around a year ago, I marvelled at how all of Llewellyn's new releases were released in sturdy box kits. Their previous sets came in heavily derided, flimsy paper boxes, and I guess they finally listened to the public's clamor for something that would not easily fall apart with minor handling.

In the thread that I linked, I did wish that they would also release their beloved classic Tarot kits in hard boxes too. I love the Tarot of Vampyres and the Golden Dawn Magical Tarot and use them often, so the boxes that they came in are now in a sorry state. I wished that if I do buy backup copies, these would come in sturdier boxes since I prefer keeping my deck and book sets in their original containers.

I was so happy when I found out that Llewellyn did just that. It seems that their latest releases of the Vampyres and Golden Dawn Magical now comes in thick, sturdy boxes with magnetic clasps on the side, much like their Modern Spellcasters' and Linestrider sets, which I have.

This is just a heads up for everyone who's planning to purchase Llewellyn deck and book kits soon. Make sure that you buy copies that come in solid, well-made boxes. They really make a huge difference!

Btw I'm not 100% sure that all of their set releases would now come in hard boxes, just that some of them are.

Here's a photo of the latest Golden Dawn Magical Tarot:

And here's a video of their recent Vampyres release. Just wow!:

Now if they'll only do something about their atrocious card stock. I really won't mind paying more for more robust cards that are a tactile joy to handle.

Yeah, that cardstock..! I actually care way less about the box since I don't like big boxes to begin with. I have a limited space in my tarot cabinet and often get rid of all the oversized boxes (and make my own, as you already know  :)) ) I just take out the guide books and keep them stacked in the back of my shelves.

Space issues can be pain. I'm lucky that I can spend some of my weekends back home where I stash most of my stuff. I just added a huge mahogany book shelf in my study last month, and it's ready for all takers lol. ;D

How very cunning and genius of you!! My space issues is more of a self-chosen thing in striving to simplify and be less excessive (Hermit/Hanged man vibes going on in my life - won’t bore you with the details!  :)) )

that is good news. My poor old boxes...I kind of surprised me about the resized books to fit the new box though, that has to be a serious expense. Confirms they won't be leaving the tarot publishing behind.

I do love their card stock

Like EK I keep my decks on bookshelves, so having the nice boxes to keep them packed in when not being used is great, and not ruining the boxes getting in and out of them is also great.  I have been eyeballing the Vampyre Tarot (will most likely be my next tarot purchase) so I am delighted to hear it might be in one of these new boxes.

The Vampyres is a perfect October deck, Jewel. And it's not all surface - the book fully deserves all of the praise that it has garnered. I hope you'll enjoy it. ^-^

My favorite type of boxes are the ones like Wild unknown (indie version), Pythia Botanica/Ophidia Rosa. It’s the perfect snug size and such durable quality (plus I think they are gorgeous too). It does make it hard to fit a guidebook/booklet inside but I actually don’t mind to have a separate nice guidebook to put in my shelf, like with Pagan Otherworlds

I will most likely get it for X-mas or my b-day in March so perhaps it can be my deck for October 2019 lol.  I chose to get the Tarot in Wonderland recently so no more deck buying for me until I get a gift card (or a trade).
