Aldor44 Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 Hey dear community. So I was wondering what are your thoughts about the whole purification process? Do you find it necessary? If so how often? And how do you do it? As for me. I do it mainly because that is how I was taught. I know about the idea of absorbing energy- but honestly- since I read in a cleansed area ( my home) and except for letting the querent pick the cards I handle the deck.. I don't really see a HUGE need to cleanse it often.. When I do.. I have two ways I either use a candle and pass the cards in a circular pattern over the candle- anti clock wise Or- I use Reiki - I put the power symbol into my hands and hold the deck between my hands and imagine/see the energy enter the cards until a white light emanates from the entire deck... How about you? ::)
Jewel Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 I will be honest, I am not much into fanfare or rituals so I don't. If I should at some point decide to do so, then I would probably smudge it by running it through Sage smoke.
gregory Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 I shuffle, reorder the cards to make sure they are all there and then put them away. The end. The only other thing I have ever done with decks is put them in with lavender scented candles, when they smelt bad.
Saturn Celeste Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 I don't cleanse my decks but I do bless every new deck. I run each card through incense and ask each card for Energy, Vibrations and Trust. I also have a blessing I give to my decks when I think about it. If I do need to cleanse my decks I hold them to my chest and give my blessing then shuffle them really good. I live in Florida and humidity is really bad down here. So I have to periodically go through decks I haven't used for awhile and shuffle them to keep them from sticking together and at that time I give those decks my blessing. Eventually they all get blessed that way.
Raggydoll Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 If it’s a pre-loved (new-to-me deck) then I would rearrange the cards so they are in order, just like Gregory said. Then I’d study the cards, shuffle them real good and start using them straight away. I have never felt the need for cleansing a deck, but sometimes I blow or knock on it as a sort of wacky gesture to connect and freshen up the energies a bit, and that’s basically it. I will however charge my cards from time to time, but that is quite a different topic and has more to do with boosting my own connection with my deck and not with ridding it of anything
DevonCarter Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 I will be honest, I am not much into fanfare or rituals so I don't. Same. I will occasionally blow on a deck before shuffling it, like to blow off the previous reading, but I don't really believe that does anything other than MAYBE help clear my mind. I think the rituals are more for the reader, than for the cards, so each person should do what works for them. I usually just shuffle the cards until I feel like they're mixed up enough, and that's enough for me. I work for a printer, so to me, paper and ink is just paper and ink. There's beauty in the art, but the reader is the key. So far no one has asked us to print a tarot deck yet. I live in hope that one will come in one day!
Page of Ghosts Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 I usually don't do much of anything since I buy new decks and I don't see any reason to purify something that is brand new. It might have been different if I was typically getting used decks though. I do give any new deck a good look through it, to see all the cards and make sure nothing is missing, and I've been starting to think that as I shuffle a new deck I might be charging it, maybe.
odd_soul Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 I've bought one used tarot deck, and I cleansed that one by setting some quartz and selenite on it and leaving it for a bit. (Actually I had to leave that deck for a long time—at least a year!—with some newsprint between the cards because it arrived smelling very strongly of cigarettes and I'm very scent sensitive so I couldn't use it until that smell went away! I only recently cleansed its energy with the crystals and now we're good to go!) Other than that, I don't cleanse my decks before using them for the first time, as all the other ones I've gotten are new. After a reading, I'll sometimes place the drawn cards back in the deck and then shuffle three times to expell the energy of that reading, but a lot of times I don't bother. Occasionally, I'll get a reading that feels off, and then I'll reorder the cards and maybe set some quartz on or next to the deck before using it again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wanderer Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 I don't feel any need for blessings or 'cleansing' but I do feel a need to put them away with a bit of reverence. I have a perfect box for them, which I feel helps to reinforce their nature, if that is needed... but it is more a question of showing them some respect. As DevonCarter says, though, this is probably more because I need to feel that I respect them, rather than the deck itself 'wanting' anything. (There does remain that little bit of doubt, though... ;) At the start of a reading, it's much the same: it's about being in an appropriate state of mind before I open the box. That's enough of a ritual, for me.
Guest swedishfish Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 Selenite is great for cleansing. Some readers use it both before and after a reading in that they place their deck or decks near or under a piece of selenite. To recharge my deck I place all the cards in order, start to finish, shuffle and go. I don't do that very often. Placing crystals in the light of the full moon recharges them, which can be done with selenite so placing your deck and selenite on the windowsill on the night of a full moon could do double duty. ;)
~D~ Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 I don't cleanse them every time, but maybe if I felt they were starting to read a bit wonky, I might set them in the sun for a bit...
EmpyreanKnight Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 After a reading, I rearrange the cards in their exact initial order. I must say that aside from its cleansing properties, it does help me dwell on the reading in a rather meditative way. During rituals, I choose the decks that need some purifying and pass them by the flame of an ancestral candle three times. I sometimes use incense instead of candles.
Raggydoll Posted September 21, 2018 Posted September 21, 2018 I always shuffle real good after every reading, unless I've decided to ponder over it for some time. This gives the feeling that my deck is reset and ready to take on new challenges (but I don't reorganize the cards after every reading, as EmpyreanKnight does because that would just mean so much shuffling and I quite like being able to whip out my cards and read on a very short notice - and perhaps I am just a teeny bit lazy as well X-D) I am also known to blow off energies from my cards after readings that have brought up lots of heavy stuff. It just gives it a nice airing out ^-^
