timelady Posted September 25, 2018 Posted September 25, 2018 Hi everyone! I am a beginner tarot reader and I'm trying to learn more and more about it. I'm so glad to find this community since I don't know anyone (other than a close friends and family) who are interested in Tarot...or would let me read for them. How I got started is still confusing to me because the whole idea wasn't a part of my 'life's plan' at all lol, so if anyone is interested in reading... I'll try to keep it short. My family is Thai but I was born and raised in the US. During one of my trips back to Thailand, after 15 years of not being back, I got the chance to meet my uncle. My uncle is a Buddhist monk in Thailand and he does Tarot readings. He does it for free, at no charge at all, for everyone. His intention is to answer their questions/troubles and give guidance whenever possible. Even though I've heard stories, but I've never had a first-hand experience or knew how it works. I've never been to a tarot reading before, so I couldn't help but be a bit skeptic of it all. Also, having been raised in the US, the idea of having a monk do a reading for you was kinda strange to me lol. He first did a reading for my parents, and I couldn't tell if what he's saying were accurate or not, but I must say, it was pretty exciting to watch. While I was watching, I was trying to figure out how he's able to know everything by just looking at the cards. When it was my turn, I was so nervous, but I kept an open mind. Well, to keep this short, I went in feeling skeptical, but came out feeling like the monk knew me just reading the cards. He knew even what I was feeling at that point in my life. I'm not sure if I was a complete believer after that day, but after seeing him read for other relatives, I was convinced more and more. One thing led to another, and I became one of his pupils. Everything went pretty fast and here I am, learning tarot. One thing about me is that I have social anxiety, so it's been hard for me to read for strangers (even talking to strangers is scary lol.) :-[ Anyway, I feel like posting here is a good first step for me to know more people and maybe try doing readings for some of you here. My uncle suggested making a website that way I can start reading for people online without having to do it face to face, so I wouldn't be as nervous. So...that is part of my plan and, hopefully, I can create a website and share with all of you here. Thank you for reading! ^-^

timelady Posted September 25, 2018 Author Posted September 25, 2018 Thank you HOLMES and ali3n :)) HOLMES[/member], I will check out biddy tarot. I think I might have seen the website while doing research but haven't looked through it yet. My mentor suggested that I start by using the Radiant Rider-Waite Tarot, so I think I'm about 80% in memorizing the meanings. I'm following my mentor's reading methods, so I also have the Revelations Tarot, The Transparent Tarot, and one deck of Oracle cards. I'm not really sure what kind of system I'm going for, I'm just jumping right in lol. Some problems that I'm having right now is... I feel like I'm "thinking" too much rather than going with my intuition. I feel like if I use my intuition, it's going to be wrong, and sometimes I'm reading too much or too little into the meaning of the cards :-\
Jewel Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Hi timelady and welcome to TT&M! That is fabulous that you have a mentor, I so wish I had had one when I started out. I think you will find this community very welcoming and a very safe place to practice. There are a few reading circles, reading groups, and just some really nice people here.
