Greetings from the US

So I guess a brief introduction for me is in order. First off, don't be fooled by my username, I am a complete and total tarot beginner (less than a year in). When I started, I found myself more interested in the historical aspects of tarot rather than the esoteric and wanted to create a website documenting my journey researching the topic. So I came up with the Tarot Scholar. But I've since abandoned the idea because it seems much too time consuming to study and blog about it (too many hobbies to juggle between). Maybe in the future I'll revisit the idea.

So I haven't really learned how to read tarot and have just admired it as a lover of art. I've been too busy chasing after decks since I missed out on so many great ones but I'm hoping once all the dust settles I can start to concentrate on learning the history, cards meanings and three big systems (RWS, Thoth and Marseille).

My wishlist is neverending for sure, but I got most of the "unicorn" decks that I've wanted but am still on the hunt for a few more. Please take a look at my deck wishlist in my profile and if you have any of the decks on my wishlist, feel free to DM me.

And because I'm in search of many OOP decks, I always have some OOP decks on hand that I'm trying to sell and trade (its how I fund my collection) so please take a look at my profile.

Anyways, that's all I got. I look forward to meeting everyone and hopefully I'll learn a thing or two here.  ;)

Welcome to TT&M TarotScholar  ;D  You will find that most of us share your interests and this is a learning forum so a fabulous place to explore these things, experiment, ask questions, etc.  Don't be shy, folks around here are very friendly and enjoy helping each other learn.  I lover your term "Unicorn Decks" ~chuckles~ ... and I am so glad you and I are already exploring a Unicorn trade  ;D.

Please know that there is a tarot mentorship section here on TT&M to help people on their way to learning Tarot.  It is free, and you will find that the mentors are quite passionate about the subject so fun times.  It is also a great way to get to know a few people on the forum which always adds to the comfort level.

Glad to have you with us!

some of the earlier works of history on the tarot have been discounted

one in particular was mostly considered theory and not based in fact.

so one has to read reviews to see if a history book suits you.

The Tarot: History, Symbolism, and Divination 2005 is a good book.

Mystical Origins of the Tarot: From Ancient Roots to Modern Usage 2004

I didn't read these

Origins of the Tarot: Cosmic Evolution and the Principles of Immortality

Tarot of the Magicians 1985,, back in  print.

The History of the Occult Tarot earlier work I believe

The Esoteric Tarot: Ancient Sources Rediscovered in Hermeticism and Cabalah

Whew sorry for the slow response guys, busy busy.

Raggydoll[/member] Thank you for the warm welcome!

MoonGypsy[/member] Yes I do hope we end up trading in the future.  ;)

Jewel[/member] I can't take the credit for the term "unicorn deck" I've heard a few people in the Tarot Facebook and YouTube community use this term and adopted it. I will definitely look into the mentorship program once I actually start seriously diving into tarot reading.

HOLMES[/member] Out of curiosity, what theory are you referring to? Thanks for the reading list, most of these are already on my reading list but a couple of these are new to me.  ^-^

AJ-ish[/member] Thanks I'm sure I fall quite sort of my username lol

HOLMES[/member] haven't heard of either of these books but my guess since they were published in the 80s ad 90s the information would be a bit outdated?
