Guest Night Shade Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 Hello everyone Are there any decks that you're really attracted to, but you just can't get yourself to say yes to? Mine is the Crystal Visions Tarot. It's a beautiful deck, and it's on my wish list, but when it comes down to it, I just can't get myself to buy it. Are there any decks that you feel this way about?
Raggydoll Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 Yes! I am actively trying to prioritize my old decks instead of buying new, so unless I feel a deck is super special and fills a true gap in my collection then I’m not gonna buy it. So I make lists and wait, and usually it ends up with me not wanting to commit to purchasing it, cause I’m just not sure that I would really love and use it (not only “like” it and put it on the shelf). I would also need to cull one of my old decks for space-purposes (I have decided to limit my deck storage space on purpose to keep things in check). But I did go ahead and preorder a deck that Ive wanted for several months. It will not arrive until next year so I’m gonna have plenty of time to decide how to fit it into my shelves by then ;) ) (I moved this thread as it was not about a specific deck and felt more like a general discussion, hope you’re OK with that!)
Flaxen Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 I’m also trying to reduce the amount I buy. I make an exception for historic reproductions but a lot of the mass market decks have left me feeling dissatisfied after purchase. There seems to be such a glut of decks at the moment - I’m feeling quite fatigued by it.
PathWalker Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 For me it depends whether it's new, recent second hand, or very vintage :) Here in Glastonbury, and via this forum and friends, I have the chance to try out lots of recent second hand decks, and I must say if I think I might like them I do buy them. I can always pass them on if they're not 'me' Brand new decks though, I have to really feel I will treasure it before I buy. The one vintage I hum and haw about is a yellow De Laurence - I think I really want one, and then I just can't bear to bid enough LOL
Raggydoll Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 There seems to be such a glut of decks at the moment - I’m feeling quite fatigued by it. This. I agree 100%
sandrang123 Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 I have crystal visions, but I don't often use it. It's very pretty but a little too "light" for me. I don't necessarily mind a light deck now & then, but I just didn't take to this one so much. I want, but still haven't bought, Prisma Visions. I love the look of the deck, but I really want a first edition "Strawberry", and that one tends to be at a higher price point than I'd like. The other thing, too, is that I'm worried I'll be disappointed with the deck, despite how beautiful I find it. But who knows...Maybe I'd love it! I never know until I shuffle and work with a deck a few times. I've had way too many disappointments, along with quite a few pleasant surprises. Still, there's only so much money to gamble with over here! :)
Jewel Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 There seems to be such a glut of decks at the moment - I’m feeling quite fatigued by it. This. I agree 100% I also agree with this, and it has been that way for quite a few years! When I came back from my Tarot Sabbatical I was overwhelmed ... I was actually overwhelmed when I took my Sabbatical! ;D I am pretty much that way with all the decks on my current Wishlist. If/when I get a gift certificate I might get some of them, but I would much prefer to trade for them. Like Flaxen I am trying to reduce the number of decks I buy period. I think this year I have only purchased 1 deck outright (others purchased with gift certificates so they don't count >:D), and that is after being on 3 to 4 year Sabbatical where I purchased nothing. Like Raggydoll, I am working on prioritizing my decks, mainly into the "will use" and "will not use" camps so I can start a trade or sale list. I have decided that if I am not going to use them (reading, art inspiration, writing, etc.) then it is time to rehome them. I am way past the "catch-all" phase of collecting.

LoveLightPeace Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 The Spiritsong Tarot is that deck for me. It has been on my wish list for a long time, but I just can't commit to buy it for some reason.
DanielJUK Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 I have bought some wonderful decks for my collection from you in the past PathWalker[/member] on AT and love getting a second hand version from a forum friend, it makes you think of them when you use it :) I have a few from AT folk that I feel a deeper connection with really <3 I am also trying to not buy too many new decks, I want to use my collection so far. I have to say I very rarely buy brand new (or 2018) decks, they tend to be older decks although I do buy brand new self published decks more often than that. I think my saying yes to a deck and then not getting the deck is probably the Ghost Tarot by Lo Scarabeo 2014. I have looked at it so much and love the whole genre and idea but people are mostly negative about it in their reviews. The deck makes them feel melancholy and sad or the art doesn't really work in the way it seems like it should. It's a deck with a great visual idea but is ultimately disappointing. I always think I should get it and then see someone saying they are disappointed in it!
odd_soul Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 Deviant Moon is a deck I've thought a lot about getting, since it's a deck so many people love! And I do like the quirky artwork, but I'm not sure if it's ultimately a deck I'd really want to read with, so I haven't pulled the trigger on it [emoji53] Perhaps someday! But personally I love how many decks have come out in the past few years! I will admit I did go a little deck crazy for a couple months there, but I've mostly calmed down now [emoji28] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If you're only planning to use this deck for yourself, and not read for others with it, then the only opinion that really matters here is yours. If you feel a true connection with this deck, and you can afford it, then go ahead and get it no matter whether or not anyone else likes it.

I feel exactly the same with this deck. I like weird artwork and atmosphere like that, but I don't know if I'll really use it. It is in my wishlist though and this summer I even find it at a cheap price. I hesitated but I didn't buy it.
ilweran Posted October 14, 2018 Posted October 14, 2018 Spiritsong, Ostara, Wild Unknown. They've all been in my amazon 'saved for later' basket for ages. I'm determined to get the Anieth Nature Tarot though, soon as I get the money together it will be ordered!
Annabelle Posted October 17, 2018 Posted October 17, 2018 Interesting question. Right now, no -- there's nothing lovely that I've been putting off buying. At this point in my collecting, I've bought 99% of what I want -- the only things left are decks of true historical value or significance. So many of the recently released decks just aren't my style.
Daveho Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 Honestly... I got a standard RWS and a couple of randoms I’m not thrilled by (something something witches and truth seekers’s) I’ll keep the RWS and the other two are on eBay currently. I’ve got a centennial RWS on the way aswell as the hermetic tarot but the latter is more a curiosity
