Raggydoll Posted November 2, 2018 Posted November 2, 2018 I like to use my oracle decks the same way I use my tarot cards, and I often combine them with tarot decks and/or use multiple decks of any kind in a single reading. I am not that big on daily one card draws or just pulling an oracle card for finishing off a tarot reading, plus I am generally never drawn to angel themed decks. My collection is very centered around nature: animals, plants, crystals, pagan/earth magic/wheel of the year and/or lunar cards. But I also like more allrounded oracles like the Dreamtime reading cards. I typically prefer ‘real’ art over digital art. But enough about me, now I want to know what decks you find useful for this type of readings?! I want to slowly add to my own collection of oracles (I have much fewer oracles than tarot decks but in reality I use my oracles just as much or even more than my tarot decks!) but I want it to feel like a well rounded and carefully thought out collection. So I’m really interested to hearing about other people’s favorites in order to expand my views (as well as my collection) a bit! ^-^
TheFeeLion Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 I'm much like you in the way I use tarot and oracle's and even like similar styles! I have a crystal deck that I use quite frequently in conjunction with whatever other deck I'm using at the time but my other 2 favourite oracles would be the Black Mirror Oracle (RavenofSummer just started a thread about this one) and Froud's Faeries Oracle. The faeries would definitely be my go to deck though as the Black Mirror can be a bit on the intense side sometimes
Guest libra Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 I'm definitely seconding Froud's Faeries deck! When it comes to oracle decks, I like them to have a good range, not all "fluff" or else they really aren't much good for much more than an additional guidance card in a tarot reading, like you mentioned. Froud's deck is beautifully structured and carries that range, while still being an amazingly intuitive deck to work with. I've also got a soft spot for Soul Cards, but they come with NO information, so it's all on you to read the cards for your own personal meanings!
Saturn Celeste Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 Oh I’ll be back in the morning for this!
Raggydoll Posted November 3, 2018 Author Posted November 3, 2018 Thanks everyone <3 I definitely will look into those decks! I thought I might add a list of my complete oracle collection so you can get a better view of the situation :) I want more animal based decks and have been eyeing the Messenger cards by Sandra Kunz. I have also been looking at the hedgewitch botanical oracle. Plus I wouldn’t mind a deck with a shamanic feel... Edit: Oh, and a deck with a clear intuitive/psychic energy would also be very useful to me. (Maybe those soul cards would do the trick?) Anyways, these are the 17 decks I currently own: - Animal spirit oracle - Lavish earth crystal affirmations deck - Wild crystals deck - The Moon Oracle - Creatures of the Moon Oracle - Wild Moon Lunar Phase Deck - Wild Medicine herbal deck - Pythia Botanica oracle - Wisdom of the Trees oracle - The Green Wheel Oracle - Earthbased oracle - Enchanted spell oracle - The original Wychwood Oracle - Oracle of Mystical moments - Dreamtime reading cards - Saltwater reading cards - Mother Mary oracle
2dogs Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 I only really use Tarot (of sorts) if required by an exchange circle. My real favourites are The Photographic Card Deck of the Elements and The Photographic Card Deck of the Solar System, often with a card from each for every spread position. They weren't intended for divination so it's a matter of looking at the images, the factual text on the backs, reducing numbers on them and comparing with Tarot, comparing the paired cards, reading the companion books for more facts and images, seeing if the book has a different or altered image etc.
TheFeeLion Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 I have Sandra Kunz's Messenger Cards! I actually have them up for trade if you're a subscriber :D I can always posts some pics if you want to see what the cards are like or what the book is like too
Flaxen Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 I love to use oracle decks too. I also love the Froud’s Faeries already mentioned here. If you like nature based/shamanic style oracles you might like the A’HA Oracle: http://www.ahaoracle.com.au This one is also very good: https://www.colettebaronreid.com/mystical-shaman/
Saturn Celeste Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 This was the original thread I started to post on when I went to AT. I was really shy over there but I loved this thread! I come in on page 4 https://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=236530 I look back at my posts and it's funny as I gained more knowledge, my pairings really changed. But I do have some combos I do like. If you want to see these cards with easy access go to my portfolio page, the cards are all linked. https://www.saturnreadstarot.com/portfolio Watcher Angel + Angelarium Sirian Starseed + Cosmic Reading Cards Femmes Erotiques + Vintage Wisdom Oracle Now no matter what the deck, if I use an oracle, I want to to pertain to the question I ask as opposed to matching the deck.

I actually have them up for trade if you're a subscriber :D I can always posts some pics if you want to see what the cards are like or what the book is like too Thank you, pictures would be very interesting! How do you find the book? And if you don’t mind, can you tell me why think this deck did not work out for you? I am not interested in a trade at the moment, it’s all those shipping/customary charges that has kept me back so far (I live in Europe) :-\

Or do you use them together?

I am not interested in a trade at the moment, it’s all those shipping/customary charges that has kept me back so far (I live in Europe) :-\ I think the best way for me to describe why we didn't click is to liken it to meeting someone new. With some people you just get them straight away, nothing is forced, it's natural and easy so it's easy to slide into a great relationship. With this deck it was more like meeting someone that I really want to like because on the surface it seems like we could get along really well (I still think that to some degree), but to get deeper with this person is a bit of an uphill battle and too much like hard work. And sad to say, I don't have the spare energy to really dig deeper with this deck. I think also that I was a little disappointed with the deck when I got it, there weren't as many of the brighter coloured cards as I thought there were going to be so it wasn't the best of starts for making a new friend! Here's some pictures for you. I've also taken one of the guidebook with the corresponding cards so you can get a better feel for it. I'm happy to take more if you want too :)

Or do you use them together? I've noticed the same! I really only have the first deck. I'm not a fan of the card stock - it actually feels laminated, and the sample deck in my favourite shop is peeling quite badly. I had been holding out on getting the second, hoping for a better quality reprint, but no such luck!
Jewel Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 Hey hon! (( You know I love Faeries, but in all honesty the Froud Faeries Oracle is in a league all of its own. You want intuitive, and interactive then you have to give this one a shot. This deck comes alive. I started out working with it by going through the first part of the book and doing the exercises it included and let me tell you, these faeries jumped right off those cards and right into my life. I can experience them without even having to be using the deck! It sounds insane but there is something really magical about them. As if they are channeled. Remember Faeries are part of nature too! ;) I primarily use oracles or Tarot, rarely mixing them - mainly because I am anal about pairing things that look like they should go together. But in working with the Druid Craft I felt compelled to also work with the Druid Plant Oracle, Druid Animal Oracle, and Green Man Tree Oracle. I found all 3 to work amazing with that deck and I now consider them a set and cannot imagine working with the Druid Craft without adding an oracle card from one of those decks. I also really love the deck Earth Magic (by Steven Farmer). If you want something with animals, The Way of the Horse is another really powerful deck.

I really dislike it when nice decks are printed in high gloss or being heavily laminated, it tends to chip no matter how carefully you shuffle :(
Raggydoll Posted November 5, 2018 Author Posted November 5, 2018 TheFeeLion: Thank you SO so much! That was really helpful! I totally get your analogy and now that I have been able to study the cards a bit closer (thanks to your pictures!) I sense that I don’t fully resonate with those keywords, and I kind of wish she would have left those out.. :-\

My eye is drawn to them first and that just stifles my intuition.

I sense that I don’t fully resonate with those keywords, and I kind of wish she would have left those out.. :-\ Keywords are like... My BIGGEST turnoff with decks! My eye is drawn to them first and that just stifles my intuition. YES! So true. I mean, card meanings should never be fixed because no two readings are ever the same. And I rarely view a card exactly the same more than once. It’s organic and intuitive. And written keywords can also pose a problem when reading for others (especially face to face!). People often pay a lot of attention to what is written and they will have a hard time to move past that no matter how well you try to explain what this card means to you or what energies you are currently picking up from it. So if there are keywords written on cards then they have to really resonate with me and/or be really general and leave lots of wiggle room for different circumstances and intuitive signals. And that is rarely the case (hence why my collection is so much smaller than I wished it was!) —- end of rant ——- ;)

Thank you sweetie <3 That fairies deck has such a nice vibe to it and the artwork is stunning! I do not doubt that it will end up in my collection soon ;). A little off topic but have I ever told you about how fairies and wee folk was quite a big feature of my childhood? My grandfather believed in them and used to tell me stories and educate me on all things important regarding them (he also believed in gnomes and nature goddesses and such). I was never told stories of Vikings or Norse mythology, because that had never been a true part of the ‘old ways’ in which my granddad was raised. (He practiced a bit of Norse shamanism as well). So I am not a complete stranger to this topic and I actually felt a bit nostalgic looking at those pictures :)

It has been around since like 2000 so one never knows when it might go away (which would be a crime).
